To your left is a picture taken by Larry Jr of the Lifeguard chair Eve lounged in during her summer job. A paper with a poem scribbled on it, with multiple, layering variations of thickness, style, and color in the lines written, likely from it having been worked on over a long time, with different writing utensils being used every time it was worked on. It was left in the middle of a lunch table near the Eldridge community pool a block down from Echo Park, and across town from Larry Jr’s house, who had forgotten to take it one afternoon. Something he’d been writing since the start of summer, or more so, since the start of his infatuation with Eve, who took the part time job as a life guard while looking for a real one. He knows, to his own incredible dismay, that he really has no chance with her for a multitude of reasons, but that never stopped him. Larry would look for literally any reason to get his dad to take him to the pool, going as far as to convince him that swimming somehow made him cool (it’s a long story). All done for a single girl he’d laid his eyes upon by chance one early summer day. And so he did, every day he did just that, he went, he observed, he infatuated, and he wrote, and wrote, and wrote some more. He’s had so much inspiration and additions to the poem that it can hardly be called that anymore. Now, is it the most elaborate, most well written piece of poetry to ever enter the medium? No, but it is the real feelings a kids having a summer flick, even if that’s all it is. ------------------------------------------------------ Found this in the wild? (Or at random?) So alone in the midday sun. I love it when she tells me to “Walk, not run!” Eve, you’re the life guard of my dream, But you never noticed me cuz I’m sixteen so… Come on, take your eyes off the pool. Come on over and explain the rules. I know you’re working, but don’t you wanna? Come on Eve, meet me in the sauna… The concrete’s burning the soles of my feet, Sweating through layers of sunscreen and heat. Bought a warm Sprite from the vending machine, Tryin’ to look cool for the summer pool queen. I love the sun screen on your nose, Your goofy straw hat, and your sunburnt toes. The way that the light bounces of long, dark hair, You’ve got smooth pale skin as a lifeguard, that’s so rare. Such a sight to see, if only you were the only one their You’re checking the pH and pacing the deck, I’m getting sunburns all over my neck. Pretentiously flex every time you walk by, But I know that I’m no match for the red headband guy. Give me a chance, I’ll do whatever it takes. I think it’s time you call a 10 minute break, so… If you’d listen to me, I can be your guy! Blow that whistle, tell the kids not to dive. You’ve got the mocha and I’ve got the spark. Let’s hide in the sauna till the lights go dark, oh… Throw me something just to save my life. Tell me one day you'll be my wife. Give me something just to end the strife. I know how to swim but I'm sinking fast, Hoping this summer crush is gonna last. Years from now, when the concrete cools… We’ll just be names carved by neighborhood pools. I even heard you play Base Guitar. Eve, do you even know how pretty you are? We’re melting away in the midday glare, But I’d give anything just to be standing there. Take off your shades, look me in the eye. But don’t tell me that you're happy with those other guys, no. Come on Eve, don't be like that. We can sneak away while my dad swims laps. I’m drowning in your eyes, you’d know it’s true! Sitting up there, I hope you can feel it too. I know you're working, I know you wanna, Come on Eve, Meet me in the sauna…
