Name History: Chantex of America (1951-1974) ToyBiz (1974-p.d.) Short History: Canadian toy manufacturer Chantex would establish an USA branch in 1951. The division, at first, was launched solely to distribute Chantex's products in the USA. The company would began producing its own toys in 1952. Chantex of America, like its Canadian parent, initially produced wooden toys, before branching out into other products. The company's 1st successful toy line was Brossland, named after Chantex US employee Brandon Ross launched in 1956. Additional successful toy lines launched from the 1960s & into 2000s, including RaceJets, Simply Sara, Seal-a-tronics, Molly the Folly, Magically Destined, among others. Beginning in the 1960s, Chantex of America began utilizing the slogan "The Toy Business". In 1974, its name was changed to ToyBiz to reflect the slogan. Chantex would sell ToyBiz in 1976 to real estate developer & businessman Fred Trump. Despite the sale, ToyBiz maintained a level of independence from Fred's real estate firm E. Trump & Son. While still under the Trump family's control, the company was transferred to Fred's 2nd-eldest child Donald in 1983, who was the then-CEO & president of ToyBiz. Ronald Perelman through New World Holdings, Inc. would acquire ToyBiz in 1990 from Donald Trump, effectively ending 14 years of ownership under the Trump family. Following the sale to New World Holdings, Inc., ToyBiz would merge its operations with Marvel Comics, forming Marvel-ToyBiz as a division to handle both companies. In 1993, New World Holdings, Inc. would merge with News Corporation US forming News Corp USA. Later in 2000, AOL, Inc. would merge with News Corp USA forming AOL News Corp. ToyBiz would spun off from AOL News Corp in 2003, now becoming an employee-ran company.
