I'm going to talk about the most useless character in Alphabet Lore and how to make him a little less useless. We all know who H is, right? H is just one of those minor background characters the story doesn't need. His primary characteristic is that he's a ghost. A dead, soulless, pointless ghost. But what if I told you that there's more to his character than we think? Well, I'm going to be talking about that today. I'm going to give H more characteristics so that he can be more recognizable, and because I'm tired of him always getting disintegrated. Let's begin. The first new characteristic I'm going to add to H is that he can't actually die, since he's already dead. Since ghosts were already dead, they couldn't die a second time or be destroyed (not to be confused with immortality). Plus, H's body is made of mostly gas and air, which is not touchable. By the time he dies and becomes a ghost, almost nothing wants to mess with him. F was the first letter to (unintentionally) kill him by causing L to produce a big fart cloud. He also kills H again by inhaling him and farting him out, but because H is a ghost and he's already dead, F realizes that the first life he ever took will always come back. Because H is almost non-corporeal and can barely interact with anything, sucking him up like a vacuum and excreting him out isn't even a guaranteed death sentence. His untouchable body is built to feel little to no pain and allow him to survive any existential threat that would kill any normal living creature. From diseases to meteor showers to lacks of oxygen, H is the only letter that can survive just about anything, excluding black holes. The second new characteristic I'm going to add to H is that he has the ability to possess other letters and even infect them like a virus or parasite. But the reason why he does this is not just because he's a ghost, it's because he became very lonely after his death and now just wants to talk to his friends. Because he lost his physical body a long time ago, H's only form of communication is possessing other letters. The most common letters he interacts with are C, P, S, and T. This is a reference to the digraphs that contain H: CH, PH, SH, and TH. G and W seem to be immune to H because their sounds don't really need to be changed. However, G is a weird exception. The digraph GH is usually silent and appears in words like "though," "thought," "night," and "sleigh." Sometimes, GH is pronunced as /f/ at the end of words like "laugh," "cough," "rough," and "enough." It also makes the /g/ sound, and this rarely happens in words. Because the GH digraph can be used to spell so many different sounds, it’s really important to take the time to become confident with using it. The digraph WH, on the other hand, usually makes the same sound W does. It occurs at the start of words like "where," "what," "why," and "whale." However, in words like "who," "whose," and "whom," WH makes the /h/ sound, which also rarely occurs in words. The third and final new characteristic I'm going to add to H is that he has the ability to make himself look scary, frightening, and/or intimidating towards other letters. However, he only does this for fun and nothing else. Welp, I guess that's gonna be it for H. I gave him all these new characteristics so that he plays a good role in the story. This will be permanent to H and there's no way to undo it all. So whenever I make a lore that features either H or his equivalent, these changes will stick to that letter forever.
