[ramble time] i will confess right now that i am extremely late to the notscotish algicosathlon hype train, i only watched the series in full like two or three weeks ago as of writing this. so what do i think of it? i wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but it was a very good time. thoroughly enjoyed both seasons (especially 2). i could really see where alot of the...i guess tropes??? originate from in later algodoo-related content here on scratch that's for sure my season 1 favorite was EASILY cyan. season 2 fav is probably olive, but ivory, aqua, white and lavender are very close i feel. and well i think you can tell here [design notes | SPOILERS for both seasons and supplementary material] - olive's design is primarily based off of chell from portal. dunno why that specifically, but i think if you've seen both it's kinda obvious. those waffles are...certainly something. they look more like pies if anything, actually, but i think NS!olive would eat "waffle pies" regardless here, he's meant to be Wallonian (french belgian). probably not specifically from there, but indeed naturalized there - aqua's i remember having in my head for quite a while. he's not really based off of anyone in particular. the final form was quite different from how i envisioned it, but i think it (hopefully) still carries the vibe of "intelligent, fairly quiet individual who minors in therapist". him being puerto rican was entirely based on vibes. - cyan is sort of based off of Izzy from total drama but that's really only cursory, really. based off of s1 cyan because i significantly prefer that version of her. initially i wanted her to be some sort of ballet dancer in design but that didn't really pan out, like, at all cyan's legs indeed have some lacerations, but those are mainly because of her very...risk-taking personality getting her injured i guess the blue flower is obvious who it represents i think the name "Lizzie Sharp" was more so a vibe thing, I thought it fit an energetic person pretty well. - violet ended up being my favorite one to do, despite not being in my 'favorites' per se. she is not based off of any particular character. the design is really simple compared to the others, due to the posing obscuring some of the more difficult parts to do, but i think it communicates her character really well. she's meant to look noticeably more miserable here than in canon, though "canon" wasn't particularly that detailed to begin with... if boseru didn't exist she'd probably be asian-american - ivory, the only confirmed character with a last name. i think. i was planning on adding a custom one for her like the others but then i did my research. to an extent the design and especially posing are based off the character of the same name from a minecraft...machinima series? known as WHITEPINE, though i'm not sure that fits this ivory well since she is quite brash in ivory coast. but i think having a character who presents as "prim and proper" but is much more than that is a good idea in and of itself and well. if you know what those two pins in her hair represent...yeah. RIP.
