It is with our utmost sadness and displeasure to announce that the running candidate for President of the United Planets of the Galaxy, Gamal Abdel Nasser, has had an attempt on his life made. The individual in question has been detained.
Our investigation found that on the morning of July 13th, 2265, an assailant had attacked Mr. Nasser from a passing hovercraft as he was greeting people in the city of Alexandria, and as he prepared to attend a rally. Mr. Nasser sustained two wounds to the shoulder, and one that luckily missed vitals which landed in the torso area. Police forces quickly subjugated the assailant, who was revealed to be a high ranking member of a conservative clan of the Don Glorbus mafialiens, and also a manager of a factory under the ZRCPS which opened a month ago. The reasons for the attack are still being investigated, but likely result from comments made by Mr. Nasser regarding the Lumisource Party and towards the factory of the assailant. Regardless, Mr. Nasser is still hospitalized and is on a way to recovery. For now, Anwar El-Sadat will be stepping in on behalf of Gamal Abdel Nasser for the presidency. Thank you for your patience.
