Sporezone. Once a lively urban planet reduced to nothing but mushrooms as far as the eye can see. Sporezone is an ancient planet covered in a giant yellow mold that escaped off of a warship that crash landed for unknown reasons. This mold feasts on decaying bodies, and can hijack the nervous system of impostors, in rare cases this will instead have a beneficial effect for both and the mushrooms will strengthen the impostor in exchange for eating some of it’s victims. Other mobile forms of it are known as manglers, which are a hivemind of humanoid mushrooms that hunt down whatever it can eat. The mold was a small hazard when it was first introduced to the planet, until the warship’s enemies tracked it down and released toxins across the whole planet, assuming it was an ally of the warship. Because of the unnaturally high population density of the entire planet, the mushrooms, known as mangleshrooms, began infecting and spreading across the entire globe, immediately suffocating what life was left. Today, the Sporezone is covered in a layer of manglemat, which is a dense and spongy material formed by the mushrooms as a way to absorb energy from the sun. Under the surface are giant mushroom pillars, hundreds of miles tall, that support the manglemat on top. These pillars function as roots, and sap from the carrion… aka the previous inhabitants of the planet. Across the equator where it’s the hottest, impossibly large mushroom columns reach into the sky. They resemble the prototaxites of prehistoric earth and they shoot their spores into space and across the rest of the planet in order to grow the colony. All of these are one single organism- the only inhabitant left of Sporezone. Extra bonus stuff: the surface absorbs whatever stays on it too long because it gets hungry, and if whatever is dragged in is lucky, the object gets stuck in the layer of manglemat and doesn’t fall down to the original surface.
