Hot tears fell down my face. He laughed, but not the sweet laugh I was used too. It was something else. Almost...evil. "That's adorable," His grin sent shivers down my spine. He cradled my cheek into his hand. "I own you babe. Now, wake up. Go back to your living nightmare." I awoke with a startle and remembered. A nightmare...yes just a nightmare. I let a breath out, my eyes wandering over to Jaxson who slept on his side, looking peaceful. How could I dream something like that? Jaxson was the perfect husband. We'd been married a year and I couldn't be happier. I leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. He smiled in his sleep. I glanced at the clock. Six o'clock in the morning. Perfect. I slipped out the bed and quietly changed into my clothes, trying my best not to wake Jaxson. I headed to the kitchen and started mixing up some pancake batter. Blueberry pancakes were Jaxson's favorite, and I felt like doing something special for him today. Maybe I was feeling guilty about the dream... I shook my head. Ridiculous. That's all it was. Exhaling a breath, trying to make my chest loosen up, I folded the blueberries into the pancake batter. "Good morning," Jaxson said, leaning on the doorframe into the kitchen, his voice still gravelly from sleep. "Morning," I smiled, spooning the batter onto the pan. "Blueberry pancakes?" He asked, peering into the batter bowl. "What's the occasion?" I shrugged, trying to seem nonchalant. "Just thought you'd like it." "Thank you." He wrapped his arms around my middle and pressed a kiss to the top of my head. "Of course." I leaned into him. "Now, help me finish these pancakes." We sat down at the kitchen table, I was eager to dig into the pancakes. I piled four onto my plate and drizzled the golden syrup over them. Pure heaven. I picked up my fork, about to take a bite when I noticed Jaxson staring at my plate. I put my fork down. "What's wrong?" I asked. He said nothing, but his eyes flicked to my stomach. "Is this...too much?" I asked, re-examining my plate. He shrugged as went back to his pancakes. What did that mean? He's just trying to look out for me, I thought. He's concerned about my health. I put two of my pancakes back and settled on two. I looked up and saw Jaxson smiling. "I love you." His eyes shone. "I love you too," I took a bite of my food. He was the best husband ever.
