There are around 2,000 acres of land in Camp Yawgoog for the scouts to live on, and around 47 campsites (This is only a small portion of the camp here). Yawgoog was founded in 1915, and its first general manager was Donald North (He has an entire courtyard named in his honor). Yawgoog has since grown into an international scout camp, and one of the better known scout camps in the world. You can swim a mile at the pond, learn how to swim on the pond, shoot guns, meet up with the staff (They are very very quirky people, believe me), and earn up to 60 merit badges, both on and off the reservation for Yawgoog. Yawgoog is split up into three mini-camps: Camp Three Point, camp Medicine Bow, and camp Sandy Beach (Medicine Bow and Sandy Beach are partially pictured here). Three Point is further to the south and was founded when the camp began. it was at one point Yawgoog in its entirety, and lives up to such expectation. It contains the challenge center (With a rock wall and zipline), the biggest trading post you'll ever go to (The 407, named after Hill 407), and the Kelley Nature center. Its campsites are: - Frontier - Santa Fe - Tuocs - Sleepy Hollow - Oak Ridge - Pioneer - Musketeer - Edward Bannister - Donald Dewing - Wells Fargo - Forty Niner - Zuccolo - Scott - Street Medicine Bow is the middle camp founded (I believe) in 1926, making it about 100 years old. It is called the "Beating Heart of Yawgoog" and is indeed the cream between the two cookies. It contains the Webelos Camp, Baden-Powell (Where scouts and non-scouts can experience Yawgoog without their troop), YLE (Yawgoog Leadership Experience), the Stockade (Craft center, where leather working, textile, pulp and paper, and basketry are taught), and the Ashaway aquatics center (Where sailing, rowing, etc is taught). Scouts can also bring instruments to play the Medicine Bow Trumpet cheer. Its campsites are: - Weemat - Wuttah - Netop - Red Wing - Wunequin - Manchose - Waskeche - Dan Boone - Neimpaug - Minnikesu (Where YLE stays) - Cautantowit - Mannitoo - Wetuomuck - Baden-Powell Camp Sandy Beach is the largest camp in Yawgoog. It was founded in 1938 (I think), making it the most youthful camp. It has the Campcraft center (Where pioneering, wilderness survival, camping, orienteering, and cooking are taught) as well as the Rifle, archery, axe-throwing, and shotgun ranges. It Is so called the "Powerhouse of Yawgoog" and lives up to such a name. Its campsites include: - Jim Bridger - George Washington - Paul Siple - John Glenn - Neil Armstrong - Donald Cady - Lewis and Clarke - Fredrick Douglass - Abe Lincoln - Audobon - Backwoods - Teddy Roosevelt - Richard Byrd - Davy Crockett - Norman Rockwell - James West - Silver Buffalo - Ida Lewis - Ernest Seton (The newest campsite in all of Yawgoog) All camps have their songs.
