"Morning" I smile as I turn and look at him. After all these years I get my happily ever after. 2 years earlier Katie: "Katie, will you go to prom with me?" Asks my best friend David. "Oh I'm already going with Kevin, sorry. I didn't realize that you didn't have a date." David gives me his perfect soft smile. It's the one he gives when he wants to say more but doesn't know how. "It's fine Katie, I mean you really like Kevin. I'm happy for you." I smile at David. David: I'm angry with myself. She likes Kevin, I know this. She tells me everything. I shouldn't have been surprised. It shouldn't have caught me off guard, but it did. "Um, I have to go David. Monica wanted to look at some dresses with me. See you later." I nod and she smiles back at me. Her smile it's beautiful full of life perfect. Prom Night Katie: I arrive at the dance with Kevin, Monica (her date) Seth, and David and his date, Avery. Kevin holds the door for me and I smile at him. I can't believe I'm actually going with Kevin Dunburg to Prom! David grabs my arm as I turn to walk off with Kevin. "Um Katie.." He pauses "Have a great time tonight" I nod and smile at him. "You too!" David: Dumb, dumb, dumb I'm so dumb Why didn't I tell her before prom? Why did I have to go to the dumb dance with Avery? Dumb, dumb, dumb I'm getting punch for me and Avery when I see Katie running out the gym. I put the glasses down and run after her. I find Katie sitting on the stairs in front of the school. "Hey Kit Kat, what's wrong?" My nickname doesn't make her smile. It always makes her smile. "Don't call me that!" "Don't talk to me!" "Just go away!" I stand and turn to leave. "I'm always here for you Katie." "I love you." She whips her head around and faces me. "Well don't!"
Katie: "Then he said 'I love you'" I tell Monica "He did?" I nod. "It's ok." I shake my head. "I still can't believe that Kevin thought I was dating David." Monica nods empathetically. "Did David know you guys weren't dating?" I nod. Monica smiles at me softly. 2 years later Katie: Wedding bells ring, my maid of honor, Monica, stand next to me adjusting the light brown braid with flowers in them. "I can't believe it! Kevin Dunburg! High School hottie" I cringe at the nickname my fiancee had earned 5 years ago. After prom me and Kevin got serious, late night phone calls, walks on the beach, picnics, movie dates. My parents loved him, I mean what's not to love, beside his looks in high school he got straight A's, was Star Quaterback, and did volunteer work with 3 different organizations. "Ready?" Monica asks me. I nod. Ceremony "I now pronounce you Husband and Wife, You may now kiss the bride" Kevin dips me back and kisses me. It's perfect. David: I watch them leave the wedding hall. She looks perfect as usual. I can't believe it. She ditched me over a dumb rumor. Maybe she was waiting to ditch me. I don't care. She told me to stop loving her but I don't think that's possible. I'll never stop loving her. For as long as I live My heart will be hers. Even if I never receive hers. Inspired by @AllyAuthor's short stories Bnr/Cover designed by me on scratch
