(No instructions) This project is an art and writing sharing project. Some backstory and details didn’t come up in the story, due to these characters not being the focus, but I thought it’d be fun to share, along with some art.
Rylan and Ruby are the heads of their family, being the eldest members of the group. The two weren’t always close, as when they first met Ruby had recently been injured and become disabled. This made her even more fearful, and extremely protective of her younger sisters due to it, making her see anyone who’d approach them as a threat. Even Rylan who only wanted to help them…or so it seemed. Ruby sniffed right through Rylan’s front, as he selfishly only offered help due to finding Ruby alluring and desiring her attention…but as the chameleon came to witness her care for her sisters and her selflessness for their sakes, she began to rub off on the sneaky young man. It took some time, but eventually…after witnessing Rylan risk his life to save baby Topaz, and coming to accept she could not adequately care for the little girls all on her own, Ruby allowed him into their group, welcoming both him and Topaz into their family. Though the others tend to see Ruby as merely overly anxious and overbearing, Rylan sees that it comes from a place of deep love for her sisters and the boys, but also a heavy amount of loss in Ruby’s past she doesn’t want repeated. Rylan supports Ruby and her desire to keep her family safe, but also does his best to try and help the bat not smother the children and keep the peace when her care comes off as lashing out. Ruby tends to think Rylan isn’t cautious enough, but also does appreciate him soothing her worries, and him filling in the gaps she struggles with when it comes to helping the children through their troubles. She prides herself in being able to physically protect her kids as a skilled fighter, but their emotional matters tend to stump her. Ruby took a notice of Rylan’s passion for story telling when watching him make up fairytales for the little ones, and encouraged him to pursue his interest despite the circumstances in their few moments of free time. In spite of their hardships, they managed to raise four children into adults, even when initially being children themselves. They risked everything for them and one another…up until the very end. (When Rylan is flirting with her, it’s visibly obvious, as he’ll start to turn brighter shades of green, or even shift to being red in the face (similar to real life chameleons).)
