ᵂʰᵉⁿ ᵗʰᵉ ᶠᵒᵘʳᵗʰ ᵂᵒʳˡᵈ ᴸⁱᵛᵉᵈ We aren’t meant to live In the shadows we wait, The ruffled grass dry and flattened, Our world seeping out Through the cracks in the sky above. Beyond our reach. Just as the sun crumbled Through the rising and swelling wall of trembles, Sinking into the ground as earthquakes Just as our blue lips will k!ll for the taste of water. Just as we are the last people torn apart By hunger, bl00d and dust. I will survive. I stay with mother, her face dusted with dirt And feel her skin parched under mine. We look at each other, faces wreathed with bl00d. Then we wait. __________ In the strained earth We lie, Tangled in the fallow-fair earth. Red sparks and flowers convulse in the sky above, And the tears roll onto the ground, Crumbling underfoot Mother whispers the breeze into my ears And the seam-veins on her hand slips away Like settling dust, Gone. Then all that is left is the slow burning brightness And in the hour of the light, I have a dream __________ By the running of the stream, I sit. My face full of seams and lips pink with flush, Mother disappeared with the dying sun. She was a prisoner of time. She said she would change the world. Maybe she has. This is our last world. The fifth world. The grass is green and yellow and brown, With tints of blues and pinks and life. The world still reeks of the past starvation, But this is a fresh start. There are days where I feel poor and wrinkled and dry, Then there are those where I feel fresh and full, And others where I want to laugh And cry and dance and dream All at once, The salt and sugar of this world mixed with my tears And I hug the trees and stroke the grass and feel the wind in my ear. I look up to the blue, blue sky that goes forever up, and up, Rising with joy. This is our last world. The fifth world. __________ What Mother said It is so hard to live And I can feel the thrum of the beauty and chaos pulsing the beat of life all at once, Then when I breathe my last breath and the sands of time run out and de wields its blade, The song of songs will sound, The mourning cry, The toll And everything I have done will be lost, No-one will feel the pain of age as I have and the Touch and taste and memories of the bittersweet tears of time Will be gone forevermore, In the end, I hope the world will smile at me from afar, Then maybe you will forgive me. __________ We aren’t meant to survive I hide in the light, And in a far, far place Hope to forgive you, In my scrawled skies, Everything is faded, jagged, jaded without you, Mother. With their coiled and sickly smiles, The monsters rise from the earth When the newborn sun surfaces And we all forget how twisted we’ve become, The true monsters In the eye of the storm
