i'm sick and tired of this community ripping off other people's stuff and making it their own rodolfo never said "you guys can copy off of my designs without permission." seyis never said that. we have normalized copying people's stuff to the point where it's impossible to back out. rodolfo can't say anything because if he asks for people to stop stealing HIS content, the community's gonna devolve into chaos. this doesn't feel like a numberblocks community. it feels like a community that forced one person to accept the fact that they're the center of attention. and now rodolfo probably feels like he "has" to continue providing for his thousands of followers. popularity in this community sounds like a fate worse than death. imagine having your stuff being turned into an annoying cliche! i would be devastated! especially if i never let anyone do it! "but i credit rodolfo" that's great! unfortunately it doesn't excuse this fact. credit doesn't mean you get to do whatever you want. if you need a sound or something, then sure. but if you're ripping off an entire person's style, credit, even if done correctly, will do as much work as a bandaid to a corpse. people want to make their stuff "rodolfo-core." some are very obsessed with making their big number bands "seyis-core." people are trying to emulate other people's styles and designs and sounds instead of trying to be themselves! inspiration's fine, but when your entire identity is focused on trying to mimic someone you look up to, maybe step back for a moment and realize that inspiration is only good for so much. you're gonna have to realize that you can't be like someone else, and if you do, you're gonna be just like everyone else trying to be like that someone. whenever anyone makes a groundbreaking or high-quality series of projects, there's a 90% chance the community will take any bit of originality the project had and turn it into the most tired and repeated cliche known to mankind. this community shouldn't be entitled to being able to rip off other people. stop copying others' stuff. i beg of you. be original. you can take some concepts, but don't make entire projects focused solely on "following a trend" or "being like that one popular creator." be yourself. make your own content. and if it isn't great at first, learn how to build upon it or come up with something else yourself. find your own style, and make sure you like being that style. your identity should be based on your own ideas and your own stuff's quality. you shouldn't be concerned with being like everyone else. stand out in a good way. have fun with your stuff. and if people try to copy YOU because your stuff became popular, tell them to learn to be creative themselves. we need to stop normalizing taking other stuff. we need to treat these creators with respect. and that doesn't mean "oh their stuff's cool so... yoink! it's mine now." it means letting their stuff be theirs, and letting your own stuff be your own, completely distinct wherever possible. you can learn from others, but don't make stuff just like the others. make it the way you want to. you can have a quality standard all you want, but don't be so focused on being "as good as rodolfo" or "as good as seyis" or "as good as blahblahblah." compare yourself to yourself. nobody else! don't get caught up with the popular stuff. please. i beg of you all. the best way to be respectful of people like rodolfo is to let their content be their own content instead of "the hot new thing to make clones of." "i'm so used to doing it like that though" true enough. but that doesn't make it okay. just because everyone robs a bank doesn't make it "okay" (an extreme example but i think it proves my point well enough). this community is full of young children, so they're bound to be more impressionable, and thus try hard to be like everyone else. but they should also learn these lessons. they should learn to make something unique and not just try to be like everyone else because it's good. kids, experiment. get weird. do whatever you need to in order to find your own style. thank you, numberland, and... good night! /ref
