hello! today im making a tone tag list and this is somewhat mainly for dbd! because some dbders dont use them! what is tone? tone is what a phrase or statement means or comes across as despite what it's actually saying. examples of tone could be serious, joking, lighthearted, etc. what are tone tags? tone tags / tone indicators are things you can include with text to indicate what the tone of it is. why are they used? some people have difficulty picking up on tone. communicating through text only makes this harder due to lack of audio and physical clues (voice inflection, body language, facial expressions, etc.) tagging what tone you are using can be very helpful for others understanding of what you're saying, clarification, avoiding miscommunications, etc. when/where should they be used? they can be used any time or place you may be communicating through text. here is a masterlist i got from someones carrd! /j = joking example: " you guys suck /j" /hj = half joking example: " im right arent i? /hj " /s or /sarc = sarcastic / sarcasm example: "how great is it this? /s " /srs = serious example: " im so sad rn / srs" /nsrs = not serious example: im so sad rn /nsrs" /lh = light hearted example: "hey i heard you use all prons, can i use neos for you? /lh" /g or /gen = genuine / genuine question example: "what prons do you use?" /ij = inside joke example: " i just found a glass muffin guys" ( irl inside joke between me and my sisters) /ref = reference example: " if youre jumping in muddy puddles you must wear your boots /ref" /t = teasing example: "you silly goose! /t" /nm = not mad example: "you still like that dead fandom?" / nm" /lu = a little upset example:" i cant believe they took away my device / lu" /nf = not forced example: "hey could you guys give me some sunshine for fun? / nf" /nbh = nobody here example: "that person stole my clams!!!/nbh" /nsb or nvp = not subtweeting/vagueposting example: " is such a silly goose /nsb" /nay = not at you example: " youre so silly guys /nay" /ay = at you example:" is so cool!!! /ay" /nbr or /ntbr = not being rude/ not trying to be rude example: "are your commissions open still? /ntbr" /ot = off topic example: "wait is that an olivia rodrigo pfp i see? /ot" /th = threat example: "i will take your clams next round /th" /cb = clickbait example: "super cool coffee recipe!!! /cb" /f or /faux or /fake = fake example: "guys olivia rodrigo just came out with another song!!! /faux" /q = quote example: "There's this idea that if you're not straight, you have to tell all your family and friends immediately, like you owe it to them. But you don't. You don't have to do anything until you're ready." /q /l or /ly = lyrics example:" and my head is full of poison and my heart is full of doubt /l" /c = copypasta example: ""According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly. The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible."/c" /m = metaphor / metaphorically example: "her eyes were shining stars /m" /li = literal / literally example: "this is crazy /li" /rt or /rh = rhetorical question example: "whats in a name? / rt" /hyp = hyperbole example:: "theres like a billion books in the warrior cats series / hyp" /ex = exaggeration example: "theres like 75 warrior cats super editions / ex " /p = platonic example: "i love you/p" /r = romantic example: " i love you/r" /a = alterous example: " i love you/a" /pc or /pos = positive connotation example: "im about to cry guys/ pos" /nc or /neg = negative connotation example: " im about to cry guys / neg" /neu = neutral / neutral connotation example: " im about to cry guys /neu" /npa= not passive aggressive example: " i got smt!!! /npa" lcfc means last comment for context and lrfc means last reply for context and lpfc means last post/project/piece for context! do not mock the use of tone tags. you may not need them but some people do. not everyone can tell when something is a joke, etc. just be nice about it. using a tone tag isn't an excuse to be mean. you can't say something not cool and then put /j (joking) after it to get away with it. be nice. try to put tone tag(s) in your original post. if you comment it underneath your original post not everyone will see it. do not purposefully use tone tags incorrectly "as a joke", to confuse people, etc. the point of tone tags is to clarify. you do not have to use all these tone tags. this carrd has a lot. you may not think all of them are helpful for you personally and that's ok. use what you would like. respect others using what they like. use tone tags however feels right to you. sometimes I use multiple, sometimes only one, sometimes none at all. just do what feels right. it will probably be fine. if someone asks for clarification just clarify.
