I was introduced to this song through a GuP music video using this exact version, my favourite version of the song. :3 This song is famous because of its service in the Second World War. The Finnish had captured Soviet landmines and began tinkering with them, because they prove to be quite a challenge, and they wanted a way to easily defuse them. They discovered that the traditional Finnish folk song, "Säkkijärven Polkka" played at just the right frequency to jam the mines. So, as the Finnish raced in Soviet territory, they blasted it on their radios at full volume. Finnish musicians played for hours as Finnish mechanized divisions raced over Soviet defenses, retaking Karelia back from Soviet forces, despite being heavily outnumbered. Finland is one of my favourite Eastern European (Well technically they are northern European, but shhh-) nations. They shined during the Second World War, famously holding back wave after wave of the Soviet onslaught in the Winter War, and then pushing the Soviets back hundreds of kilometers within weeks after being bombed by the Soviets. They are the happiest country on Earth (I don't get how you can measure happiness, but okay-), one of the most free, and have a very beautiful country. It is extremely rare to have all three. I remember a few years ago I used to play some kind of video game that took place in World War Two. I would almost always play Finland (Because I was trash at every other country), basically blitzkrieging through Europe and Russia before taking over the rest of the world. Everytime I would play Finland, I would launch thousands of heavy tanks from France to the Americas, and have a massive naval war with America- It's just so funny to imagine Finnish tanks rushing through America and Canada lol- Honestly, I can't really think of a single bad thing Finland's ever done in history, other than indirectly helping the Axis, and even then, the Axis threatened to invade them repeatedly. :3
