The feeling of being reaped, is one of the worst and hardest feelings to describe. For me, Jay Hawkins, it felt as if my world had just caved in on me. Me? In the Hunger Games? Honestly, I never thought it’d happen. But then again, deep down, does anyone ever actually think that their going to be the one’s who get reaped? Who gets stuck as Capitol entertainment? I mean, standing here, hearing my name being called through that microphone, in that high pitched, far too happy voice? Yeah, I’m basically in a panic. But then again, what can I do? I don’t have a choice. So, that’s why I’m currently forcing myself to walk up onto that stage, and face the rest of District Twelve, and pretend that I’m somewhat okay. My mother’s looking at me right now. There’s a kind of panic in her eyes. Is that what it’d be called? Panic? Yeah, lets call it panic for now. The reaping ceremony gets all finished up, no complications. The boy tribute is named Charles Dane. Don’t really know him to be honest. Heck, I don’t know even half of the other kids my age, because I’ve never cared enough to talk to anyone. Yeah, I know that sounds mean, and very anti-social, but at the moment I don’t care. And- My thoughts were interrupted by me being pushed along in the direction of the Justice Building. Charles doesn’t spare me a glance, not that I care much. He’s probably gonna kill me eventually anyways, right? Once they put me in my little waiting room thing, I know I’m not gonna have to many visitors. Honestly, I’d be surprised if anyone came to say goodbye, but of course, my mom never seemed to want to stick with expectation’s and I soon see her form in the door way, tears in her eyes. A part of me wants to cry too. Another part of me wants to punch a wall. Y’know, all that stuff. But I sit there, looking completely emotionless. Now, I expected all that lovey dove, overly emotionful conversation crap. What I didn’t expect, was my mother taking off her necklace, and holding it out to me in her outstretched palm. I stared at her with wide eyes, my gaze switching between her blue eyes, and the beautiful blue-green gemstone necklace. She just nodded, to upset to use words, and took my hand in hers. Placing the necklace in my palm, she looked my straight in the eye. “I know you, Jay.” Her voice broke, but she forced herself to continue speaking. “You won’t survive that arena, because you are incapable of violence. I know I haven’t been the best mother in the world, far from the best actually, but I want you to know, I do love you. With my whole heart.” I stared at her, trying to process what she just said, the words hitting hard. She had never told me she loved me. Not once. She hugged me, and for the first time in a long while, I hugged back. “I love you too,” The words barely above a whisper. We stayed like that for a few more minutes, before a few Peacekeepers came and tell her she had to go. I figured that be it. Like I said, I don’t really know anyone. So when a man steps into the doorway, with a little kid at his side, I’m thoroughly surprised. Sam Rain, a little boy about the age of seven, who had messy curly blonde hair, and playful green eyes, freckles scattered over his peachy face. Okay, so I had one friend in the district. We hung out a lot, mostly because he was attached to my hip most of the time. “Hey Sam.” I keep my voice steady. Be strong for the kid, be strong for the kid! He just stares at me, his emerald eyes wide and tearful. He lets go of his dad, and runs over. I crouch down instinctively, and wrap my arms around him. “Hey, it’s gonna be alright…” I murmur, although I’m sure he doesn’t believe a word I’m saying. He doesn’t say anything, but he doesn’t have to. He cries into my shoulder, and I let him. His dad watches from the doorway, obviously feeling awkward. I rub Sam’s back, trying to calm him down a little. Once they leave, I don’t get anymore visitors, which doesn’t surprise me. Let’s just say, I know death’s awaiting me.
Um.... All writing by me, idea was by my dream, and...yeah. Um, main stuff (the games, the reaping, the capitol, etc.) belongs to Suzanne Collins. I know half of this is probably not canon accurate! I'm sorry! I haven't read the Hunger Games in a minute, so bear with me! I know it's probably trash, but whatever. NEXT: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1364878673
