"Well, are you going to come with me?" Breadboy- or Dakota, which is the actual name- chirped. "No, we just met you; that's unsafe," I stammered. Breadboy let out a hearty laugh. "Your definitly not locals," he mused. "The only crimes here are petty crimes; you're not getting kidnapped," he laughed. "And there barely are petty crimes unless you make yourself a walking target," he said, eyeing Kestrel's tail. "I'd hold that; taxidermy is expensive; it could be stolen," he said promptly. I pondered over it for a second; was going with him smart? And if we did, where would we even head? "We'll go if you lead us to the campground," I announced. Breadboy beamed. "Well, lucky you, that's near where I live," he chuckled as he started to walk. For the next hour, we walked at a steady pace to who-knows-where. I felt oddly at ease; this boy was a local and clearly knew what he was doing. We finally arrived at a medium-sized house with vines wrapped around the sides and a large garden on the lawn. It had a variety of foods. "Along with the 100 bucks, I occasionally get fresh vegetables from their garden," Dakota said, noticing me eyeing the delicious-looking tomatoes and cucumbers. This job really did pay well..Dakota climbed the stairs to the door and wrapped at it in a quick, almost musical way. A hunched old lady opened the door, her hazel eyes shimmering with joy. She took the basket of bread, barely noticing us. "Love you, Dakota! Stay safe!" she said, closing the door. Breadboy paused for a second, trying to hold in his laughs. "Forgot to mention that she's my grandma," Dakota said, sending spit flying. That explained everything. Kestrel had been really quiet for the journey, barely speaking more than a full sentence. Kestrel stood beside me, her hands gripping each other and her eyes full of sorrow; she must have been taking it harder than I had realized. "How far is the Camp Ground from here?" I asked, glancing around the neighborhood. Dakota let out another chortle. "You think we're walking the whole way! No way! Follow me," he said, mildly amused. Dakota quickly descended the stairs and sat behind the wheel of a golf cart. "You'd be surprised how fast this can go!" he said, motioning for us to hop in it. This couldn't be a good idea, letting a, at most, 15-year-old drive us. He pretty quickly caught on to Kestrel and my skeptical glances. "Don't worry, I've been doing this since I was 6," he said. And we hopped aboard. This either was the best decision of our lives, or the absolute worst.
