Ok so, I know this is a hot take but chapter 5 has got to be the worst chapter in the whole series. When an installment prioritizes shallow fanservice over meaningful narrative progression, it alienates its core audience, and I have several reasons why it is so Nostalgia Bait: This chapter’s dark world takes place from Asriel’s flower shop and it would makes sense on why it’s like that, BUT it would only work if both the characters and audiences felt nostalgic by the memories, this chapter did a bad job at it and only does OUR nostalgia, over a DOZENS of Undertale references appeare in the chapter and none of them the characters remember, hell even the final boss use a Undertale reference as a attack ability and it just feels desperate to let the players keep playing. Mad Mew Mew makes absolutely no sense to be a secret boss since she was NEVER involved with Asgore, making her feel like she’s just here for cool effects, and even the purpose of Mad Mew Mew feels less special now since she was supposed to be an exclusive character that appears in console release, but making her appear in Deltarune makes her feel unintentional and was probably there for fanservice. I know that this is Asgore’s shop but remember, Deltarune is supposed to be a whole new alternative universe Toby made, so I feel like it just kinda make this chapter feel less special. The new Characters: In all honesty: The Flowers from chapter 5 were probably the least favorite characters in this whole chapter, the most hated one's was Aqua and Seth because of how they keep appearing and appearing appearing, it just felt so tiring to keep seeing them, and even their bosses are too hard, call it a skill issue but it took over 8 times to let me defeat Aqua, Yellow is just this whiny sheriff who keeps blaming him all the time and referencing an unfunny meme, Blue just…exists, Orange was a character too, and Green was an ok character. But even so the flowers felt like the most unnecessary characters of the entire franchise, and I feel like representing them as the souls makes it feel disrespectful since the souls were the most lore filled things Toby have made, and making them funny side characters that weren’t important to the story at all, and they were made to be liked. Flowey wasn’t unnecessary as the Flowers but he was still a bit annoying and a very difficult boss. Character Assassination: Ralsei was one of the biggest victims of a character assassination in this chapter, he was supposed to be this helpful, comforting, and gentle personality, but he sometimes feel worried if his friends aren’t satisfied by him or even see’s the truth. But for chapter 5, he now stops showing that and shows hatred. I know this chapter try’s their best to show Ralsei’s turning point but the way they did it feels more like a gag and too forced, it felt too unearned to have him act like that. The reason why he hated Flowrey is because he has the exact same powers as Ralsei an thats it. It just makes him feel like a brat because of that “HE HAS THE SAME POWERS AS ME I HATE HIMM”. And he also acts like a big bully to Orange because of his small size, but Susie would be the one to confort him, which feels way out of character for Ralsei to do so. If there is one character who IMMEDIATELY try’s to comfort a character, it would be Ralsei, but it just feels too forced to do so because Susie is the one to do it, hell why not BOTH Ralsei and Susie to do so? Ralsei never apologize so I guess that’s how it is. Although that this is a filler chapter, this is a very bad example to make one, a filler episode works best after a major peak of the story to make the audience take a break, chapter 4 was defiantly one of them, and it makes chapter 5 an immediate mood change that makes it feel like chapter 4 never existed. Good filler uses a self-contained story to make you fall in love with the world or its minor citizens. Chapter 5 introduces the 7 flowers, but instead of giving them meaningful, charming personalities, they just act as repetitive, incredibly difficult roadblocks. They took up an immense amount of screen time without contributing anything to the emotional core of the series, making their presence feel like a chore rather than a fun diversion. Even when filler episodes drop lore, they should do it naturally. Chapter 5 treated foundational Undertale elements (like the human soul colors) as a shallow checklist to generate hype and tough boss battles. When a filler episode uses massive lore objects as mere visual props without respecting their original weight, it cheapens the entire universe. And to make matters worse, this is chapter 5, the closest to the near end and to make this chapter filler just makes no sense for it at all. So in conclusion, Deltarune chapter 5 was the worst chapter in the series because it rather show and not tell about the story and shoves new characters, references and expects us to love them. And for that i'll give this chapter a 3/10.
