~ (noun) A word or words by which an entity is designated and distinguished from others. ~ She stared into the dark of the nursery, as she did most nights. Except this time was different. She padded silently past the slumbering bodies of queens and their kits, and out into the open air. Crickets chirped softly, and an owl hooted. She looked up, and saw the beautiful night sky, flecked with the spirits of her ancestors. The moon was bright in the dark, almost a full, white, circle. The waves of the sea lapped softly at the pebble-y shore, some ten fox-lengths away. Why couldn't the tortie kitten sleep? The question -- and the answer -- hung at the back of her mind like a shadow. The reason was her deep uneasyness, an uncomfortable feeling like wearing someone else's fur, a feeling like something inside of didn't quite fit. But what was it? Why do I have this feeling? She thought about that question for a long while, sitting out in the dark, until the bright moon set and she was plunged into darkness. "It's.. my name." The kit realized. Her name. Fairkit. Why was that her name? She wasn't fair at all. She was biased, usually judging a cat by their pelt before she even met them. She attacked Ivykit, unprovoked, but was nice to Perry. To one of her sisters she was rude, and to the other she was polite and empathetic. She hated her name. It wasn't who she was. But, what name should she choose? There were so many options. Morning, Marvel, Holly, Mandrake, Mistletoe, Furze, Aspen, Prickle, Beech, Eagle, Briar, Chert, Fog, Otter, Petrel, Goose, Frost... A thousand more names flicker through her head like flies. There's so many... how will she know which one is right for her? Maybe... Could she try different ones out and see which one was the best? As the sky started to lighten with the first few rays of morning, the small she-kit padded back into the nursery and felll into he deepest sleep she had had in a while, finally reassured. ~~~~ Anyway so um Now Fairkit will try out the names Hollykit, Marvelkit, Morningkit and prob others to see which one fit her the best :3
