Hello, role-players. If you are in my Wands and Whispers Hogwarts RP, this is an important update regarding it. Though I am a Harry Potter fan, I have not read the books or watched the movies in some time, as most of my enjoyment of the fandom comes from role-playing. Because of this, I do not actively seek out Harry Potter media unless it is related to role-playing. Now, you may be wondering why I am telling you this, but I am about to explain. [TW: Transphobia (from J.K. Rowling)] J.K. Rowling has made numerous public comments about transgender people that are, frankly, disgusting. The thing is, I wasn't aware of this for quite some time because of my very limited social media access and my skewed interest in Harry Potter. You could argue that you should be able to separate the art from the artist, but this is not one of those cases. J.K. Rowling actively uses her money to fund anti-trans movements and organizations. Purchasing official merchandise and media can financially benefit J.K. Rowling and her efforts to eliminate rights for trans people. It can also spread awareness of her series, therefore encouraging more engagement with the Harry Potter franchise. Because of this, I am shutting down Wands and Whispers. I apologize to those who were active in the studios and events. If enough people are interested, I may create a magic school RP where you can transfer your characters to it without having to make new sign-ups. If you are reading this, I personally encourage you to no longer engage with Harry Potter media. If you still enjoy the media privately using items you already own, or if you purchase items secondhand, I can't tell you what to do. That's your personal choice. I simply ask that you consider avoiding purchases or other forms of engagement with official Harry Potter media that financially benefit J.K. Rowling. As a trans ally, I personally will no longer be posting anything related to Harry Potter, and I will take down all existing projects related to it. Thank you for reading and understanding. Sincerely, Venus
