→Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD) is a disorder that effects the brain and how the person sees the world. Usually, people with ASD have problems with things like communication, getting along, understanding body language, understanding sarcasm. They may be sensitive to loud noises, strong smells, bright lights, textures, tastes, and more. People with ASD might do things like this: Not respond to their name, they don't seem to hear at times + not want to be cuddled or held and prefer to play alone + retreating into their own worlds + have poor eye contact and have no expression on their faces + won't speak or have delayed speech or lose the ability to say words or sentences as they could before + can't start a conversation or keep one going, or only start one to make requests or label items + speaking with an unusual tone or rhythm and may use a singsong voice or robotlike speech + repeat words or phrases word for word but don't know how to use them + not seem to understand simple questions or directions + not show emotions or feelings and don't seem to be aware of how others feel + won't point at or bring objects to share interest + are passive, aggressive or disruptive when interacting with others + and can have a hard time figuring out what it means when people have different looks on their faces, position their bodies differently or speak in different tones of voice. They might make the same movement over and over again, such as rocking, spinning or hand-flapping + do activities where they could hurt themselves, such as biting or head-banging + create specific routines or rituals and become upset at even small changes + aren't coordinated and may be clumsy, or they move in patterns that aren't usual, such as walking on toes + have unusual, stiff or exaggerated body language + are fascinated by details of an object, such as the spinning wheels of a toy car, but they don't know what the object is for or how it works + are sensitive to light, sound or touch but may not be affected by pain or temperature + won't mimic others or take part in make-believe play + will fixate on an object(like a toy car) or activity(like drawing) with unusual intensity or focus + and prefer specific foods, such as eating only a few foods or not wanting to eat foods with certain textures. It can be caused by genetics or environmental factors. People with autism have risk factors to, such as: Boys are about four times more likely to be diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder than girls are. While boys may get autism spectrum disorder more often than girls, it's possible that some girls aren't diagnosed + Families who have one child with autism spectrum disorder have a higher risk of having another child with the condition. Sometimes parents or relatives of a child with autism spectrum disorder may have minor problems being social or communicating, or they may show certain behaviors typical of the condition + Children with certain medical conditions have a higher risk of autism spectrum disorder or symptoms similar to autism. Examples include fragile X syndrome, an inherited condition that causes intellectual disability; tuberous sclerosis, a condition in which benign tumors develop in the brain; and Rett syndrome, a genetic condition that almost always occurs in girls and causes slowing of head growth, intellectual disability and loss of purposeful hand use + Babies born before 26 weeks of a parent's pregnancy may have a higher risk of autism spectrum disorder + and there may be a connection between children born to older parents and autism spectrum disorder. But more research is needed to show this link. Complications that can come with autism are things like: School and learning, Getting a job, unable to live on their own, socially isolated, stress inside the family, and being bullied or a victim.
━❝My experience with Level 1 Autism❞━ →My autism was diagnosed many years after my ADHD. Certain foods, smells, textures, noises, etc can make me uncomfortable. I panic when I'm told things at the last second, making surprises a huge no no for me(unless it's birthday presents or Christmas presents). I have a hard time telling when people are joking or not. Because of this, my mom raises her pitch ever so slightly, which lets me realize she's teasing. Deadpan tones don't help as it's hard to tell if someone's joking or not. I tend to be hyper aware of my surroundings and things happening around me. I can't wear anything with the seems like you find in a dress or something that covers my legs and/or arms. I can't handle loud noises, which is why I have sound cancelling headphones. I can hyper focus on things I like, such as wolves. I remember things I find important, like wolf facts. I'm often making weird noises or movements, which is called stimming. I get nervous speaking in front of people because I'm hyper aware of the eyes on me. My mood changes quickly, often on weather, food, time, day, and more. I often take things literally if I don't know it's a joke. Sometimes I do it on purpose though. Reading body language is very hard for me. I express a lot through my body language and it annoys me when people don't understand. I'm not very affectionate either. I don't like to hug, cuddle, etc. However I will do it with my friends but not my family. I'm very close to my friends, closer than I am with my family. I can talk for hours about things I like, often not realizing when someone's bored of it. I can't hold eye contact as it makes me very uncomfortable, often looking away when talking or listening to someone than making eye contact. I mask my autism in public situations like at school or somewhere I don't know. Masking is very tiring for me and draining. I have to hide my true self when masking. The amount of energy used for masking is based on how much stress I have. Source: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/autism-spectrum-disorder/symptoms-causes/syc-20352928
