Dear Microsoft/Insomniac Games I am confused on what this new DLC you released for your game Sunset Overdrive is for. I saw a video on YouTube that showed a playthrough of your new story addon. It showed you- the Player- having to defend a new location called Mooil Rig against oil infused mutant OD on an oil rig near the lighthouse in The Harbor District. I was interested and wanted to buy it, so I went to the store and bought the dlc and booted it up on my Xbox. I played a bit on it, but something weird happened to my game. Instead of the story going how the videos showed- Bryllcream and The Player getting kidnapped and being taken to the rig- I got a sudden phone call from Sam that didn't appear in the videos. He frantically called for the help of the Player, saying that the OD had become more violent when a gooey substance leaked out of one of the Overcharge delivery trucks and they drank it. At the time I was confused, but the marker for the mission location appeared so I went along with it. I was in the downtown district, just finishing the "Re-Quests" side quest, so I didn't bother fast traveling since I just had to go 500 meters to Sasquatch and Friends. So I made my way down there, grinding through the streets and powerlines, buy my trip to the base was... odd. I didn't notice it at first, but as I entered the Old Factory District, The Player made a comment about how they noticed how the city had become silent. I stopped moving for a second, and I noticed that the background ambience was completely gone. No OD fighting, no Scab mutters, not even the sound of birds or even wind. Just the sounds of my character moving. I was now extremely confused, since I checked my settings and saw everything was on full volume, but I pressed on assuming it was part of the game. Arriving at the base, The Player called out for Sam. I ran inside the base, but found it empty. No Sam, no Oxfords, not even Two-Hat Jack or Calista. All that was in there was a destroyed room with flickering lights and destroyed arcade games and tables. A cutscene played after entering, with The Player walking in, confused. They opened their phone and tried to call Sam, but he didn't pick up. Then, they got a call from 4Kim, telling them that the Troop Bushido base was being attacked. So, another silent trip, and I got there to silence and destruction too. This time, there was someone though, the cat statue girl. Her luck from the cats was probably choice by game, but a cutscene with her told the player that the OD has attacked, alongside Scabs, all covered in the same gooey ooze that Sam had called about. The Player then talked to themself about how they were beginning to notice a pattern, before the mission icon to get to Fargarthia, and I made my way there. The ambience had finally returned by now, though no music. Arriving at Fargathia, I found them under attack by Fizzco Droids. So, being the player, I helped them deal with the issue. However, they were harder to defeat this time, and I even saw one resident actually perish, which shouldn't happen usually. I defeated the droids though, and I went inside to talk to King Ignatius. I told him about The Oxfords and Troop Bushido's disappearances, and he said that he told me that he noticed the OD being more active than usual. HE told me that he'd amp up the defenses while I go check up on Las Catrinas. I leave the cutscene and head downtown, but I didn't get within 200 meters of the hospital when I see the entire building in flames. The Player starts to panic as they rush over to see what happened, but the entire building was engulfed and I couldn't enter it. I barely have time to grieve before more scabs attack me, and I have to run after being overwhelmed by them. I run back to Fargathia, luckily finding them ok, grieving over the death of their fallen comrade- who was unnamed but whatever. I tell him about the hospital, and he warns us that a danger is upon us. The Player still wittily remarking "No [DUH] sherlock" was pretty funny though. It was then that the music started again, and a timer appeared. Ignatius asked what it was for, but the player didn't know either. They ran out, seeing a massive blob of the sludge covering Old Factory in the distance, and rapidly approaching. The Fargarths began to panic, preparing for the... second world ending event. The Player told Ignatius that they'd go handle the threat, and they jumped out of frame and pushed me back into the game. The message "Join the Light" flashed constantly across my screen as hordes of OD, Scabs, and Fizzco Droids flooded the streets trying to attack me. I ran from Fargathia and tried to get away from the onslaught of attacks, but my bullets were already low from a previous grinding session and I never restocked. The timer kept counting down as I reached Little Tokyo, getting to the Japanese museum to find the statue girl missing too.
I saw the blob completely cover Old Factory, and I realized I never got the prompt to check on Floyd at the fort. But I didn't care too much about him, I was still trying to avoid the horde. As I swung through Little Tokyo, I begin to see glimpses of survivor NPC's- the ones you'd save from the cages- in the horde too. Think I even saw a Troop member too before I booked it out of there. The timer hit 1 minute as the blob began covering Little Tokyo, and I legged it to The Harbor to find Ignatius. When I arrived at Fargathia again, everyone was missing except for Ignatius and Wendy, who were both fighting on the roof of the "castle". I arrive to help them, and the three have a squabble as we kept fighting. The blob kept getting closer and closer, and the horde started to devolve to be more survivors than enemies, and Wendy got shot in the head by Buck National coming out of nowhere. As Ignatius was grabbed by a goo covered Hardcore, seconds before the blob was gonna absorb Fargathia, a portal opened up behind The Player and the game began to glitch out. For a brief moment, I could have sworn I saw the barest hint of Bandit from Bluey- a cartoon that wasn't even in existence until 4 years after this DLC came out, and Bendy from Bendy and the Ink Machine, a indie horror game released 3 years after. Then, my Xbox crashed and closed down my game, saying the usual error message that pops up when a game crashes. I tried booting up the game again, but the game wouldn't open, saying I didn't own it. I restarted my console, and now my whole system is [MESS]ed up. Can you please fix my account and help me get my progress back? It hasn't worked for 2 weeks. - Rylan Horris, username TheGreatCincinnati.
