Chapter One- FawnPelt, especially on edge with her kits in the nursery without her, hissed angerly at SparkPaw, a small, but strong apprentice who was swatting warriors with unsheathed claws. His mother always said he was just playful, and energetic. The warriors strongly disagreed. FawnPelt nearly leapt to her feet to pounce on him, but she simply tucked her paws farther under herself and wrapped her long tail around her body. EveningStar sat patiently on the small hill. She seemed to glow in the bright light of sun high. Her ears twitched and she finnally called out to her clan. LarkClaw padded forward, her eyes glimmering brightly as she gazed at her sister. EveningStar stepped up to look out over her clan. " Cat's of StormClan. I share wonderful news today.", her voice was loud and booming over the clearing, but it quickly softened to a loud purring, " I am expecting Kits.". The clan stood silent for several moments, but to EveningStar's relief, they all began to yowl congrats. But then, a loud, stubbborn warrior piped up above the yowling. " What?!", It hissed, " We all know that leader's shouldn't have kits!". EveningStar shrank back, her eyes were fixed on nothing. She cared what her warriors said, and hearing more and more agree, it was easy to tell she was on the brink of dashing for her den. Then her deputy and sister, LarkClaw stepped forward. She ran a swift lick over the leader's ear and then stepped forward. " Nothing says it is wrong in the warrior code,", she hissed at her clanmates as if she were leader, " And EveningStar will stay in her postion and continue to lead, even if I must step forward to make it possible.". EveningStar's mate, ThistlePelt lept up next to his mate and comforted her. The clan hissed, but silenced. " EveningStar will join FawnPelt in the nursery tommorow at SunHigh. Meeting dismissed.", LarkClaw took over with ease. She knew her sister was struggling to handle how upset her clan was.
