AHAHAH CRAB I LOVE CRABSSS CRAB FACTS: coconut crabs are so big and their shell is so thick, any more shell width would crush them under their own weight or/and make them immobile (I think) since coconut crabs shells are so thick, and the sun so hot in their environments, coconut crabs like to make themselves little burrows. Coconut crabs are actually a species of hermit crab, however fully matured coconut crabs don't wear shells due to them simply being way too big and land Gastropods don't have as big of a shell for coconut crabs. coconut crabs have been filmed climbing up trees and whacking birds down, breaking their wings and turning them into basically sitting ducks for other coconut crabs. The Japanese spider crab IS NOT a crab. Infact: most things you think are crabs ARE NOT crabs, but have committed a process where in similar or the same predicaments/environments: they evolve the same traits - example: birds bats or flying insects. In most animals this is called convergent evolution, but with crabs it is called "carcinization" due to it happening so much. (And I mean SO MUCH) Due to deep sea gigantism, there has been a crab larger than one of your arm segments that could presumably crack through shells over the thickness of your thumb. (I'm not completely sure but I think coconut crabs may have a stronger crush strength, this being 3300 Newtons - the strongest crushing strength of any modern crustacean reported.) Building off of what I just said, coconut crabs also have the strongest bite force of any other terrestrial predator, excluding alligators. this concludes crab facts
