The rain still poured hard of the back of our necks as we got escorted away by local police officers speaking to us in soft voices. I look around, tears welling in my eyes. The once quiet town had become chaos as multiple people recorded us and taunted us. I looked down at my feet bashfully. What next? Would they bring us back to him. Or would our parents bring us home.. Their work trip was probably done by now. And what had happened to Jay, Milo, and River? I gazed back up at the crowd catching one boys eyes. Those familiar chocolate brown eyes. Dakota looked at me pity in his eyes. He had tried to help us. The female police officer strapped us in her backseats and began driving, who knows where. "Your parents are here to bring you home" the male officer said in a croaky voice. I shot Kestrel a worried glance. What would they think? I pressed my face against the foggy window and watched the scenery pass by. So this was it. We were caught. Kestrel's hand still laid on her tail. It was crooked, wet, and broken. But she still was holding on. And I was too. Holding on to our hope of safety. "Why aren't any of the citizens leaving yet?" I asked, remembering the imminent threat of the hurricane that seemed to be becoming realer by the minute. "It was made up. To lure you out of hiding. I'm sorry but it had to be done. Were having severe storms in the next days which helped make it believable" the male officer said with a large cough.
