Wake up. Wake up! Wake! UP! I jolt awake in a cold sweat. A dream. “Good morn- Oh! You’re already awake!” Dad says, cheery as always. “M-morning dad.” I mumble. “Hey, you okay?” He checks in on me like this every morning. “Another dream, but… I’m fine dad.” I smile to wipe away his concern. He smiles back, lighting up the room. He’s always been like that. I sigh and start getting dressed in my usual jeans and sweater. Gosh, I look stupid. I don’t care though. I scarfed down a muffin and headed to school. “Bye dad!” I yell and wave as he waves back. “Bye kiddo!” He smiles. It’s a new day. I know it’ll be a good one. I walked to my school, it’s almost a mile there, which isn’t great for my asthma, but it’s not a big deal. “Ross! Over here!” Seamus waves strongly. He’s a tall dude, and has muscle too. Lucy and Ash smile at me. Lucy grins wider than Ash does, she reminds me of my dad. Always happy. It feels good to know that people like me. Ash isn’t a fan of smiling, but tries her best. My people. My friends. The closest thing I have to siblings, since we have our similarities and differences. “Hey guys!” I say as I catch up to them. “Did you guys see that new movie that came out last week? I was so interested in it!” Lucy says, full of excitement. “Oh yeah, Solemnly! I haven’t watched it yet but the book is great!” Seamus replies. I nod to his response, since I’m also a big reader. “Seamus is right. The book is good, but the movie was good too!” I bud in. “Wait, Solemnly? Lucy! You watched it without me?! Aw! I swear if you guys spoil it!” Ash grumbles jokingly. “Sorry Ash! I couldn’t keep waiting!” Lucy apologizes, she always apologizes, even for the smallest things. “Uh, sorry to ruin our chat, but the bell’s about to ring and I don’t wanna be late!” I say. “Oh! Yeah, I just noticed! Well, see you guys later!” Seamus says, he doesn’t share any classes with us because he takes honors classes. “Bye!” We all wave to Seamus. Yeah, today’s gonna be good.
