this is actually class homework... hey everyone! the long awaited rendering tutorial has arrived ToT also TYSM FOR 0.4k+ it means a lot to me + really encourages me to keep drawing ^^ i've written down some tips down here for those who want it :) ═══════════════════════════════════ ⋮ TIPS 1. base colors/sketch ⎯ I usually go for an unsaturated palette first so I can bring back the colors when I add more details to make the character pop from the bg. If my character is more complex (if it has hands or an unique detail), I would keep the messy sketch and draw over it during rendering. Do what makes you feel comfortable, though! I'm just super lazy and push off detailing until the end :) ⋮ 2. clean up ⎯ Cleaning up the base is a necessity for my art. I merge all my layers together bc if I don't it'll crash my computer LOL.. Cleaning up for me involves shrinking or expanding a character's head to fit proportions or changing the pose. I also start to look at references for clothes, props, or bg details! in this piece, I found the qipao dress, which is a traditional chinese clothing :) I thought they had long sleeves, but they actually don't. So it's important to be aware of the characteristics of your things! ((it takes me usually longer to clean up than to render ⋮ 3. rendering! ⎯ I often see different artists define rendering as completely different concepts from each other. Some people call rendering as the addition of shading and lighting, while others render by adding finishing touches to an already shaded piece. For me, rendering is like doing the final sweep at my art. ((like I imagine it's like a janitor doing their last check around the school for trash on the floors)) It's basically a fancier way of cleaning up for me haha I would organize the details that people would look at when viewing my work. This includes the hair, lanterns/props, and eyes. This also includes me adding an outrageous amount of filters v_v.. I check my og sketch to adhere to my og concepts as well! In the rendering, I changed yong's pose back to the pose she held on the first sketch because it felt more fluid idk for the hair... idk we ball ok (use this tut: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1379196480/ by @zavune) for the eyes... also just ball (use this https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1378418435/ by glorious @onyxsky) quick thing i learned with ambient lighting: you can move your picked color to the left on the square color wheel to get the blue-toned color :) i have no idea how it work on the triangle color wheel though... ⋮ 4. closing remarks ⎯ yay! you're done :)) once I'm done with rendering, I don't ever look at it again lol I don't usually add watermarks because I forget to all the time, but since I'm going to upload this onto IG and my comms samples, I'm going to (ᵕ—ᴗ—) in all serious, you should definitely add watermarks to your work if you haven't already. it's very easy to just steal someone's work and claim it as your own. I thankfully have not experienced that, but I know it sucks to find out someone stole work that took you many hours to complete.
