I wanna preface this by saying that I’m not making this for any particular reason, so far ALL the people I’ve RP’ed with here have been great! Just thought I would give a bit of advice to anyone who’s new to this type of thing. If you’ve got any questions or suggestions, be sure to let me know! ^^ 1. Be thoughtful: This one’s pretty basic for the most part, but regardless, it’s really important that you're thoughtful in your responses. Think of, and take into account, the character, environment, mood, and situation that is currently taking place when making your response. Think about how these factors may affect your character or the words they use. 2. Watch the length: In conjunction with the first tip, please, please, PLEASE be mindful of the length of your responses. I personally believe that longer is better, but I get that not everyone does it this way… that’s the problem, you SHOULD be making your responses longer, especially if the other person is doing just that. Longer responses not only tend to be more refined and overall better for the RP’s health, it also shows the person you’re RPing with that you actually value their time and care for their responses. 3. Don’t use *these*: Don’t use *these* to describe action in an rp (like saying *sits down* for example), just don’t. Not only does this GREATLY limit your ability to write in detail and pace properly, it’s just plain ol’ lazy and boring. Your responses should be something you deem worth of being put in a novel, you ARE creating a story and you ARE creating a world after all, so be professional, be descriptive, writing in standard format really allows you to leverage ALL of these tips to a much higher degree after all. 4. Actually, do use *these,* but for this instead: Instead, you could use *these* to add *emphasis* to your words. Did your character do something important that you want your RP partner to notice and take in consideration in their response? Feel free to use *these* to *really* draw their eyes to what might’ve happened. 5. Music and RPing: If you listen to music while RPing, be sure that your song/playlist matches the current mood/story. I get that this seems kind of “off beat” (ehh? Get it? Ok I’ll stop now >>), but I think that writing music can genuinely make your writing better. It serves as a good additive to your writing. Your words are the brush, and your job is to paint a picture of the characters, their world, and the actions that happen in them, music could serve as the nice table side tea you sip to give you that *feel,* y’know what I mean? 6. Be patient: RP is fun, but it’s also incredibly difficult to do. You’re, as I’ve already described, building a world with another person (or people), so don’t fret when someone needs a bit of time to respond. We’ve all got lives, so it’s not even just a matter of just waiting for the other party to type their response. These are all the ones I’ve got for now. I’ll likely make a part two, but I think it’s a good idea that we all (you and me) learn from these tips. RPing is some of the most fun I’ve ever had, and I’ve become a better writer for it, but we can all use a reminder on how/what we should do. Thanks for reading! ^^
