This is the prologue to my work-in-progress book, The Lost Treasure of Abdul. I have a lot going on right now so I don't know how often I will put out chapters, but here is the prologue: THE LOST TREASURE OF ABDUL-PROLOGUE “I don’t care! Find someone who can arrange for it!” King Aaron hit his fist on the table, and even a table that sturdy couldn’t stand still to his rage. The messenger hurried forward to steady to table. “Sire, please. We have searched every inch of Azuz. There is no one with the expertise you require! Let your horsemen rest. They have been going all day and night!” “NO!” The king thundered, standing up so quickly that his chair toppled over. “If Ethan can have a treasure, then so can I! Show no mercy.” “Plea-” “GO!” The messenger scuttled out the room like a mouse, clearly terrified of King Aaron's reaction. The king sighed. How bad he felt when he let his temper get the best of him. Sitting down again, he rubbed his weary head. Sudden footsteps caused him to look up, and he saw his wife approaching him. “Why must everyone make me be the bad guy? I try, Emily. I really do! I just don’t understand why it’s so hard to get someone who can make me a book as beautiful as Granas Liobri?” “I know dear. You do your best.” The queen strode toward her husband, taking the seat beside him. She pried his hands away from his face, and used three of her fingers to tilt his face up. “Look me in the eye. Aaron, you try your best! That’s all you can give.” she said in a voice hardly above a whisper. “Though maybe you could give your horsemen a break.” she added with a sly smile. “You’re right, like always. Oh, what would I do without you?” The king stood up, taking Queen Emily’s hand and pulling her up beside him. He turned to her. “Let’s go down to dinner. My temper is always worse when I’m hungry.” He gave a good natured chuckle, but there was still a shadow in his brown eyes. Even as the couple sat down to a magnificent feast, the shadow never left them.
Summary: When a famine strikes to kingdom of Azuz, the orphans who lived there move to the neighboring kingdom, Abdul. One of the orphans, Eva, escapes after hearing that the treasure of the Abdulian people got stolen, presumably by King Aaron, who rules Abdul. She sets off, meeting kindhearted families, competing in challenges against athletic girls, and befriending a maid named Adeline. In the end, she returns the book and gets adopted along with her friend Emerie.
