Dictamnus albus is also known as fraxinella, burning bush, gas plant and dittany. It is a species of flowering plant in the Rutaceae family. The volatile oils Dictamnus albus can be ignited briefly without the plant itself being harmed (It looks like the plant briefly goes up in flames, I'd recommend looking up a video it's pretty cool)! On hot days, old flowers or seed pods release a flammable oil containing isoprene that lights up when you hold a match over it. The plant stays safe as the oil burns up quickly and not enough heat can be transferred to burn the plant tissue. Contact with the foliage may cause phytophotodermatatis, a phototoxic inflammatory reaction of the skin when contact with the plant chemicals is followed by exposure to UV light (like rays from the sun). Ingesting the plant may cause a mild stomach upset.
