Chapter 3: Who I Am My mind was clouded with anger and grief. I hadn't realized the Lynel was behind me until Zelda saved me. "Link! Behind you!" She yelled, shoving me over as the Lynel swung downward. I screamed in anger and slashed at the Lynel's head. Zelda grabbed another stick and assisted me. "This is for the Deku Tree!" I yelled as I slashed it one more time and it collapsed. "Thanks for the save, Zel." I panted, smiling slightly. I stared at the Great Deku Tree, feeling like there was something else important. "What's wrong?" Zelda asked. "I-I think I just remembered something." "What?" "As the appointed knight to Princess Zel- er, you, my duty in that unfolding calamity was clear: I had to wield the Master Sword and protect Hyrule at all costs. Defending the Divine Beasts, rallying alongside the Champions, and standing between the Princess and the darkness were not just orders—they were the only choices I had to ensure Hyrule saw another day." I didn't even really know what I was talking about, I had just remembered it. "How do you know it's me? It could be someone else who's the princess." "I don't know how. I just do." I sighed, wishing I understood. "Don't you realize what this means? You're a hero, Link! You were put here for a reason!" I snapped. "HERO?! I'm a hero? I couldn't even save the Deku Tree! I didn't fight for him, for you, I fought for myself! I'm just a spoiled, selfish boy who can't handle life on my own, and I'm definitely not what you think I am! What part of that makes me a hero?!!?"
