The 4th installment of the planes of the unreached, and the highest scaling one at that, going past narrative layers themselves The Philosophical Void: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1368990090/ The Topological Field: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1368999012/ The Transconceptual Plane: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1369152120/ The Cosmic Mind is a cosmological entry in four segments: the Local Mind, the Hivemind, the General Mind, and the Cosmic Mind proper. Each segment contains the one before it, and the last contains the first, so the four form a closed cycle of containment. For context, to evoke X is to bring X into a mind with the idea of X identical to X. Containment in this entry runs through evocation and permits cycles, so A ∈ B ∈ A is a valid configuration. This entry is itself an evocation, so it lies inside the structure it defines, and every sentence in it is an element of what it describes. The Local Mind For an individual x, the local mind ◀(x) is the totality of x: every experience, thought, memory, intention, and each act of evoking. If x evokes the idea of ◀(x), the evoked idea is ◀(x) itself, so ◀(x) ∈ ◀(x). The act of evoking produces the containment, so it holds each time x evokes it, and x may evoke it at any moment. Suppose x evokes a fictional individual y. Then ◀(y) ⊆ ◀(x). If y in turn evokes x as its author, ◀(x) ⊆ ◀(y), so author and character contain each other. Every narrative frame placed around x is a thought of x and lies in ◀(x). This includes the frame in which this entry describes x. Any level of fiction available for describing ◀(x) is therefore a level inside ◀(x), and the narrator and the narrated are the same totality. ◀(x) has no outside from which it could be told. The Hivemind The hivemind H is the collection of all local minds: H = ⋃ ◀(x), over every individual x, including every individual evoked by another. Evoked individuals have local minds inside the local minds of their evokers, so H contains each local mind at every depth where it is evoked. H has no size bound. Any local mind can evoke a further individual, and that individual's local mind then belongs to H. H is a plain collection whose members share only membership. The General Mind The general mind G extends the canvas analogy to everyone. G is an infinite canvas, every local mind is an artist, and each evocation of a local mind onto G is a stroke. For any set of strokes, finite or infinite, G retains unpainted extent. Every ◀(x) can be evoked onto G at the same time as every other. No stroke displaces another, and each artist has the whole canvas. An artist may paint G onto G. That painting is a region of G and contains a painting of G, which contains a further painting of G. Every depth exists at once and no depth is last, so G contains itself forever. A canvas laid over G, beneath it, or beside it is a painting, and therefore a region of G. Any candidate for a larger canvas is already inside G. Each ◀(x) is painted on G, so H ⊆ G. The Cosmic Mind The cosmic mind █ is everything within this definition. It contains ◀(x) for each x, H, G, this definition, its author, each reader, and every disagreement with it. █ contains every form of local mind: actual, fictional, impossible, and unevoked. It also contains minds that nobody recognizes as minds. Suppose z is claimed to lie outside █. The claim "z lies outside █" is a thought and belongs to some ◀(w). In that thought z is evoked, and an evoked thing is identical to what it evokes, so z ∈ ◀(w) ⊆ █. Every candidate exception lies inside █, so the collection of exceptions is empty. Any individual x can evoke █, so █ ∈ ◀(x). Combined with the earlier segments: ◀(x) ⊆ H ⊆ G ⊆ █ ⊆ ◀(x) The four segments have equal extent and differ in mode: possession, collection, canvas, and totality. ◀(x) and ◀(y) both contain █ and remain distinct, since each is indexed by the individual who does the evoking. Analysis: Any object, system, hierarchy, or meta-level that is described, defined, or hypothesized is evoked by some local mind, so it lies in █. An entry claiming to lie beyond █ is written and read by local minds, so it lies in █. A formalization of █ is a thought inside a local mind, and the formalization is identical to █, so formalizing removes nothing from █ and changes nothing in it. Every description of █ is inside █, so █ has no upper boundary that description can reach.
