He never returned. Master Crepus: Crepus Ragnvindr found young Kaeya waiting and took him in, adopting him into the family. Kaeya grew up alongside Diluc as brothers and close companions, though Kaeya secretly harbored the knowledge that he was an agent planted by the fallen nation of Khaenri'ah. The Turning Point: Master Crepus' DeathThe attack: On Diluc’s 18th birthday, Diluc and Crepus were attacked by the monster Ursa the Drake while traveling home. The Delusion: Unable to defeat the monster with ordinary means, Crepus used a forbidden "Delusion" (an occult power). The power backfired, critically injuring him and bringing him agonizing pain. Mercy stroke: To end his father's suffering, Diluc was forced to deliver the final blow. Kaeya arrived just in time to witness Crepus die in Diluc’s arms. The Confession and the Fight The truth: Overcome with a mix of grief, guilt, and a twisted sense of timing, Kaeya went to Diluc’s room that same stormy night. He confessed his true identity and his original mission as a spy for Khaenri'ah. The clash: Enraged and emotionally shattered by both his father's death and his brother's lifelong deception, Diluc attacked. Vision awakening: During their fierce sword fight in the rain, Kaeya’s internal conflict and acceptance of his dual nature unlocked his Cryo Vision. Diluc’s fiery blade wounded Kaeya near his right eye (the reason Kaeya later wears an eyepatch, though he can still see out of it). Aftermath Parting ways: Diluc resigned from the Knights of Favonius in disgust after the corrupt leadership ordered a cover-up of his father's Delusion use, abandoning his own Vision. Current dynamic: While they publicly act like bitter enemies with a "fire and ice" rivalry, in-game events like Hidden Strife reveal they still secretly coordinate to protect Mondstadt and look out for each other from afar
