The place is run by a couple of feline hybrids, Owain and Kitty, nice people. · · ─ ·✶· ─ · · Joel swirled his spoon in his cup, looking around the room, the bell chimes, and Pearl and the others walk in, they head over to him, and slide into the seat across. “Ello Joel, how are ya?” Pearl grins, Joel frowns “fine.” “You're really good at conversations aren't you?” Gem laughs. “I am just fine at conversation.” “Sure” “Could you please tell me something so I know you are at least somewhat useful.” Pearl narrows her eyes. “Theres someone over there, three booths over, she agreed to talk to you” Joel turns to look over but can only see the top of someone's head. “I’ll come to, Gem will stay with Tilly” Gem nods and starts to the counter to get a drink. Pearl and Joel walk over three booths, and slide across from a short woman with fiery red hair, one's eye seems to be entirely fire, she is reading a book but looks up from it to stare at us. There is another woman next to her, they give the two a withering look before turning her attention to Pearl. “Hey Pearl, hello detective!” The first young lady grins, “how are you today?” “Fine Cherri, nice to see you!” Pearl smiles at the girl, “Joel here is the detective in charge of the egg hunt case, the one 15 years ago, remember? You said you could tell him about it in your perspective” The blaze nods, and looks at Joel, tilting her head slightly. “Well… · · ─ ·✶· ─ · · -15 years ago- The sun was shining overhead, no clouds in the sky and a light breeze whistling through the trees. Perfect weather for an easter egg hunt. Or it would have been if not for stupid moms. Cherri sat on her bed, sulking. Her mother refused to let her go to the hunt, no matter how much she pleaded and begged, mind of stone that lady. There were old people there too! People meant to keep her and her friends safe! Ren and Martyn were old too, the three of them combined new the entire forest like the backs of their small hands! Ren had told her a few days ago how fun the hunt would be, as they trekked through the trees, pointing out good hiding spots for eggs. “It shall be amazing lassie!” he had shouted, and Cherri had giggled at the funny accent and nickname. He had loved making new characters to play, and his current favorite had been an old king, leading his loyal knight and beautiful princess through the forest. The following days had been spent begging Cherri's mom to let her go, Martyn and Ren had both promised to protect her, Ren with increased dramatics (though Martyn was never far from dramatic). But neither of them had any luck in convincing her mom, and in the end, she had to stay home. The day before the hunt, the trio were in the forest, walking the path they had walked many times before. This day however, Ren stopped at the base of one of the trees, a large oak, covered in poorly scratched signatures and love confessions. He looked at them and turned to her. “We shall see you tomorrow lass, we will share our spoils with you” Martyn nodded behind him, distracted by the birds flying overhead. “Protect the castle when we take leave my dear, stay safe” he gave her a hug, at that moment, Cherri had wondered why he had seemed so solemn, she was missing out on one thing, and her mom had already said maybe to her going next year! “Dont worry my riege, i will defend it with honor” she giggled, Ren smiled, “good” Cherri could hear her mom yelling, telling her to go home, but she wanted to stay with Ren and Martyn, they were better then her stupid old home anyways. But she went back, leaving the two boys alone in the woods. And she had watched through the window of her room the next day as the hunt began, she watched them walk into the forest, ready to find eggs. Ren had turned around for one moment, waved, and before she could wave back, took Martyn's hand and went in. That night her mother had sat her down, told her that something had happened, something with the easter egg hunt. She asked for them then, and her mother had told her that nobody knew where they were. When she went to sleep, she could feel something watching her through her window, but when she opened it, nothing, only the slightest of movements that were probably just her imagination.
Cherri looked down, pulled out of her story, she smiled grimly. “Sorry for the long story, probably bored you to death” “No no, it was… helpful.” Joel tries to smile, but it probably looks more like a grimace. “Thank you for the help Miss Cherri” She nods and Joel and Pearl leave to our original booth. “Did you learn anything useful?” Gem asks, sipping her coffee slowly. “Yes. Cherri said that she feels someone watching her on multiple occasions then and now.” Joel wrote some notes down. “Do ya need anything else from us today?” he shake my head, “no, thank you for the help though” The duo get up to go, Gem taking Tilly in her arms. “See ya some other time detective!” Pearl says cheerily. Tilly waves at me as they go, and Joel begrudgingly wave back. · · ─ ·✶· ─ · · Joel leaves the coffeehouse 30 minutes later, walking out onto the street. He checks his phone ignoring my surroundings. BAM! Someone crashes into him, and he drops his phone, falling on the ground. “Sh-t” the culprit holds out a hand and he takes it, pulling himself up. “Hello my dear friend!” Joel's shockingly blonde friend grins down at me. “Oh. Hey Oli sorry about that " Joel dust his shirt off and check that his phone and cool -ss sunglasses aren't hurt, can't have his reputation being tarnished, though it already mostly is. “It's all right! Wonderful weather we’re having isn't it?” It's been humid for the past week. “No…” Oli tilts his head. “Well everyone has opinions” “And you have strange ones” who likes 80 degree weather? “Well i gotta go, El expects me home in five” Oli pats Joel's shoulder and rushes off, a bag Joel didn't see before swaying beside him. Strange man…
