Chirping at my window, flitting through the trees, Like a flash of fire, with the chilly morning breeze. Tell me little Cardinal, why do you rise so soon, When I prefer to sleep to early afternoon? What is it that compels you To be the early bird, Already so awake and bright to see the the sun arise And even though my eyes are blurred, I see you on my sill, To hail me with your placid call And wake me with your trill.
