I do not think the Red Light is inherently evil, nor it ever was. I view it as more of a true neutral in the small bits of behavior we know about it. Although it may appear as if it is harming the player on purpose, which is most likely true, I still believe it is more of a neutral than foe. I feel like is just testing the player, possibly preparing them for what’s to come, not trying to outright kill or stop them. The reason why I think this is because of the modifiers, which it is most likely in control of. It offers things to make the ‘game’ harder, but it is a choice to take. It doesn’t force you to do Hotel Hell whenever, it lets you try when you are ready. The player is calling upon a higher power to test their own skills. It also can help you, as there are modifiers that are capable of helping the player, such as; More Stuff, Didn’t Skip Leg Day, Faster Faster Faster, MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE, Good Time, and Bug Spray. Along with; ADMIN PANEL, and CUSTOM SEED if you count those as canon. Although, we don’t know if it’s actually Red Light that controls the positive modifiers. Moonlight COULD have some control over the positive modifiers, but most likely only the object based ones as far what I’ve seen it has limited powers, depending mostly on objects. Meanwhile Red Light is capable of changing whatever it wants, able to make the game harder or easier for you. It is powerful enough to take away Moonlight. It is most likely the highest power out of all the lights, even if Starlight appears on all floors. This can be further supported if we get modifiers for the subfloors. It is good to note that Starlight appears the biggest on the Spacetime painting and knows of the existence of Glitch. There’s a good chance that Red Light and Starlight are close to tied as the strongest light, but Starlight only seems more powerful as it manifests easier, being more known, and being known typically gives one more ‘power’. It is quite possible that Red Light cannot manifest much at all, if at all. Which leads to it being seen less powerful than Starlight, even if it’s able to fully bend the world unlike the other lights. Starlight on the other hand can very much manifest easily, just chooses not to most of the time, it is at least powerful enough to get a physical(?) form to be able to paint. And since it can paint, this also implies that it could possibly have painted the Spacetime painting, which would also explain why it is the biggest out of the three architects. I wouldn’t be surprised if Starlight is a bit egotistical. Now back to Red Light being evil or not. It would make sense if it was evil, seeing we have the ‘good’ and ‘neutral’ already in Moonlight and Starlight. But honestly, I see Starlight as more antagonistic, it is basically watching the player like they are some sort of lab rat after all. That being said, if Starlight turns out to be evil, then Red Light would be neutral. Along with this, the color red is usually seen as evil, but also not. In my opinion, the color red better represents the blamed these days. The ones who take the punishments for actions of others, or for purely being them. Red Light could be seen as evil for simply being red and trying to test the player’s skills. It could quite be misunderstood. Of course, a lot of this is pure speculation and based on real world aspects, so this could very much not be canon. But it’s interesting to think about.
