Chapter Eleven: Time to Sk8! Veeronica woke up in a dark alleyway. She was dimly aware of a masked person in front of her. “Help me…” She groaned, reaching out. The masked person slowly backed away, before walking away, as Veeronica struggled to get up… ONE MONTH LATER Veeronica walked around, aimlessly, as she had for the past month. She knew her task was to help, but how do you help if no one needs help? She had no purpose. She was a useless piece of falling-apart junk. Veeronica shook her head. She couldn't tell whether she was a very intelligent robot or actually sentient. Everything was too heavy and crushing to think about. As she walked down an alley, her foot struck something in the dark, and it rolled away. Veeronica picked it up and looked at it. Her database claimed it was a skateboard. She put it on the ground and stepped on it, balancing herself. Her database knew exactly how to ride it, despite her never touching a skateboard before. She skated faster and faster, feeling the wind whip around her. It was amazing! She slowed to a stop, then got off the board, picking it up. Maybe she didn't have to help. Maybe she could be her own person. She skated everywhere now. She skated down hills, started learning how to do kickflips and sliding down guardrails. It was exhilarating. She hopped off the skateboard in the alley and picked it up off the ground. “Psst!” She heard. “Hello?” She asked, turning in a circle. From behind a dumpster, a figure appeared. “You look a little lost. I could help.” They said. “Who are you?” Veeronica asked. “Name's Amarah.” Veeronica shook the spray can and sprayed onto the wall with big sweeping strokes. She shook another can and added more and more, the image finally taking place. It was a giant Spawn symbol, with the word ‘Believe in the Spawn’ underneath. Veeronica shook her head. She didn't exactly understand why people would believe it this. Veeronica was only there for friends and shelter. Amarah had tried to teach her about the Spawn multiple times, but Vee just opted to spread the message. This was her sixteenth drawing today. She spread out all the drawings, making it harder to find a pattern. She grabbed her skateboard off her back and skated away, back to the camp. She was thinking and wasn't paying attention. That's why she didn't react until it was too late, and the car came barreling around the corner, too fast to slow down, and the sound of metal crunching on metal resounded through the street
