TW // Implied death, blood Lightshine carried her two kits through the bright lights. There was water ahead, she knew, which meant RiskClan cats - this was dangerous territory in dangerous times. RiskClan’s deputy, Darkshadow, had sharp eyes - he spotted the exile almost immediately. “What are /you/ doing here?” He demanded, stalking towards the she-cat. He narrowed his eyes furiously. She glared at him. “Passing through,” She hissed, words muffled from the kit she carried in her jaws. Darkshadow raised his eyebrows questioning my at the kits. “What? Not like you don’t have your own. I saw Blackshade move into the Nursery before they kicked me out.” Darkshadow hissed. “Well, I hope they grow up and save the Clans from /yours/. I bet they’ll both be just like their mother. /MONSTERS/.” “/Darkshadow/.” He blinked, startled, turning to face the voice. “Riskstar?” He meows uncertainly. “This I cannot believe,” Riskstar replies, stepping out into the light, “Talking to a traitor? That’s /low/, even for you.” “I- I-“ Darkshadow stuttered, staring down at his paws. “There is no right to this wrong.” Riskstar scowled coldly. They glared at the deputy. “/Riskstar/. I was interrogating her, if you didn’t realise - I would never stoop to that level.” Darkshadow countered defensively. Lightshine stepped between the arguing cats. “I’ll be taking my leave, now, if y’all don’t mind.” She told them evenly. She stalked off, her kits still carried in her jaws. Riskstar turned back to Darkshadow. "This is your final warning. Mess up one more time, and it's out of the Clan for you." Anger rose within Darkshadow. He knew Riskstar was on their last life. His paws tingled, and his face burned with embarrasment and resentment at the definite drop in his dignity. Before he could stop himself, he unsheathed his claws - Riskstar raised their eyebrows questioningly, as if saying, 'We both know you won't.' Darkshadows lunged, catching Riskstar by slight surprise, his fury fueled by their unknowing tease. He sank his teeth into Riskstar's neck before he could yell out. He dropped the limp body, his jaws stained red. The blood pooled around Riskstar's corpse. "No more lives, eh?" Darkshadow scowled at the body bitterly, "No Stars to save you now." With that, he turned and fled the scene. He just caught yelps of grief carried by the wind. Some cats shouted out, "Murderer!", "Fox-hearted mouse-brain!", or even "MONSTER!" It was the last one that truly made Darkshadow's heart break. "Just like that traitorous Lightshade." It had been called out by Blackshade, his mate - it /hurt/. He blinked back tears and, with his muzzle and paws stained red, he ran until he could run no further - but his luck, in his opinion, had turned rotten. He collapsed outside Lightshine's den. Her scent was unmissable, and Darkshadow knew it well - the two had once been the best of friends. Darkshadow dragged himself to the entrance. "Lightshine..." he puffed, exhausted from the run. Green eyes blinked open from the darkness, narrowing. "Darkshadow. What are /you/ doing here?" Lightshine hissed. Then, she sighed. "What did you /do/? K!ll somecat?" she glanced at his redenned paws. "Y- yes." he replied awkwardly. Lightshine's eyes widen. "/Who/?" she asked carefully. Dakshadow pauses. "I can't see any point in lying," he sighed, "It..." "Spit it out." "Riskstar! I k!lled Riskstar, alright!?" he blurted, his ears flattened aggresively. He didn't like being bossed around. Lightshine jumped to her paws. She stalked forward pacingly. "What!?" she demanded. Her green eyes glowed with mixed emotions - anger, surprise, and... perhaps a hint of pride? "You heard me." "So you just... k!lled them? Bit their neck? Last life?" "I was deputy, remember? They told me about their last life." He replied sharply. "I was deputy when I got exiled." Lightshine pointed out. "Whaever. Can I... stay with you?" he asked almost nervously. Base by @hayleylumewing . [CONT BG] After a slight pause, Lightshine nodded. "Fine. But /don't/ touch my kits, /don't/ touch my stuff, and get your own moss, prey, and herbs." "Deal." *** 1 Moon Later *** Lightshine prodded Darkshadow to wake him. "Up." she demanded. When that is shown not to work, she pounced on him - Darkshadow woke with a start. He glared good-naturedly at his friend, batting her with one paw. She laughed. "Come /on/, snail-paws! We agreed to go hunting today." "Oh yeah!" Darkshadow sat up abruptly. The two cats padded side-by-side to the rabbit urrow they had been eyeing a while. Darkshadow had wanted to hunt them right away - but Lightshine had argued to wait until the smaller rabbits were young adults before attacking. "More prey!" she had told him. Sure enough, all four adolescent rabbits were outside now. Darkshadow guessed their parents were out foraging, with no idea of the fates their children were about to come to, since the adolescents were alone. In a flash, they had four rabbits to bring back to Lightshine's kits. When they arrived back, something was wrong. It was too quiet - even when the kits slept they made noise. The air smelt heavily of RiskClan. Lightshine and Darkshadow exchanged worried glances. "This /can't/ be happening." Lightshine fretted, wasting no time in searching the den. "They're /GONE/." Darkshadow pressed his flank to Lightshine's comfortingly. "It's alright. We'll find them, I promise. Even if I have to k!ll a second of RiskClan's leaders..." *** RiskClan's finding the kits *** Rainglow had been out searching for herbs. 'Where, oh where, do I find...' they pause as they detect the unfamiliar scent. '...kits?' They wander towards the scent. Two softly-coloured kits sat, crying out for their mother. 'The poor dears...' Rainglow thought, picking up the pitiful creatures. They take them back to RiskClan's Camp, placing them in the Nursery to sleep. 'Later, Ripplestar can name them. But for now, they can sleep.'
