So... as it turns out... motivation is a finite resource. It is not an excuse, it is the fuel that pushes artists to make art, and depression symptoms can drain that fuel prematurely. They are not making 'excuses', they are (probably unintentionally) crying for help. ... but that does NOT mean you have to help them. I'm not going to pretend like you didn't have every right to be upset. Making no progress on a project you're passionate about (especially because of people/factors beyond your control) is an awful feeling. However, maintaining inspiration strong enough to overpower a depressive haze is an onerous endeavor. I ask you all to acknowledge that fact before judging whether or not it is worth extending your sympathy. The point I'm trying to get across is that, the mental conditions of others is an obstacle you must plan for; it is not a "phase", and complaining about it changes nothing. How you choose to answer that obstacle is entirely up to you. Set strict deadlines, pep talk, kick people off, letting people "race" for parts... There isn't an objective moral solution, and you have no obligation to be considerate of others. People forget that kindness is a courtesy and not a right. While I personally strive to give my kindness to everyone, NOBODY should judge you for being 'selfish'. It is not wrong to advocate for yourself, and it is not wrong to put your aspirations above others. Never let anyone tell you otherwise. ...
