.:| Welcome to 8-Bit Music Maker |:. This project allows you to easily create songs that sound fairly authentic to music on Nintendo's NES console, using the same waveforms that give the system its iconic sound. Includes 4 original example songs, too! == FAQ == Q: Can I import a .WAV file? A: No. If you want to edit the music later, also save it using the "Get Code" button Q: How do I do <x>? A: Click the "help" button. It will probably be explained there. Q: Why is the end of the exported sound missing? A: Your browser might have a limit on the length of the strings you can put in the URL bar, and cuts off the end, which results in the end of the sound missing. If this happens, you'll need an external tool for converting the text into a binary file, for example https://tomeko.net/online_tools/hex_to_file There can also be a length limit on the clipboard, which you can bypass by using drag-and-drop to copy the text into the input Q: Can you erase notes? A: Yes, use the eraser tool (the blue icon in the bottom-left corner). Q: Can I use songs I've made in my own project? A: Yes, absolutely! It would be cool if you linked back to this project, but you don't have to. Q: I just made an awesome song, how do I share it? A: Click the "Get Code" button and follow the directions. This will generate a .txt file. These are too long to post in the comments, so put them on a website that allows you to upload text. Then, post the link in the comments. Q: How do I import a code I found online? A: Copy the code, paste it into a .txt file, save it. Then click the "Import Code" button and follow the instructions. Just be careful: if you got the code from a text-hosting website, you need to copy the uploaded text and nothing else. If you copy too much or don't copy the entire thing, it won't work. Q: Can you erase all of the notes and pages at once? (Green flag does not clear it) A: Yes, hold the 9 key for THREE seconds. == Differences from my previous remix == https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/706640778/ - The exporting is now much faster. - The square wave algorithm now outputs anti-aliased square waves, instead of outputting an aliasing sound and doing a low-pass filter on it - The outputted waves are now centered instead of making positive offsets only and then doing a high-pass filter on the result - Fixed some glitching costumes by moving the glitching parts by a half pixel - When importing save codes, now it detects when you import into the list Changes since shared: 2026.Oct.06: fixed slight bug in the noise generator (the shift register was 14 bits wide instead of 15) == Credits == Sample songs and most of the editor: Useful information (last checked 2026.10.04): https://www.nesdev.org/wiki/APU (NES noise, NES mixer) https://web.archive.org/web/20260604053530/http://soundfile.sapp.org/doc/WaveFormat/ (WAV file format) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Base64 (Base64 encoding)
