Instructions

I told them not to go in… I told them it would get them killed. I was right. I wish I wasn't. I wish my nightmares would go away… They pound in my head. The whispers… They never stop. They tell me to commit seppuku for letting them die… I couldn't save them! THEY ALL DIED BECAUSE OF ME! It wasn't a bad day. I mean the clouds are always a bit gloomy, but it was warm… Almost perfect, nothing even seemed off. Just me, Adrean, Nick, Ean and a couple of Adrean’s friends. We were all just living in the moment nothing could go wrong… Right? I mean it was practically perfect! I mean they were finally getting along… Please don’t go wrong. Please don’t ruin my day. Please… Then suddenly Adreans friends rushed off to a building around the corner… The asylum. “Come on yall!” No, no, no, no. I’ve been there before. I’ve never told them… I guess it just got pushed aside in my memory. Though once and a while I hear the screams… I remember. I was little, about ten but I was just an average kid. My parents weren't always the best but I never thought for a second they would do this… We had always called it the nut house. I always thought only lunatics went there. I mean it was an asylum. There was always a tingly feeling when we would walk past. I distinctly remember seeing a woman… Alone in the courtyard. It felt off but I would never question it. Until I turned fifteen. My parents were fighting again. I mean every couple has problems but mine had always been… Temperamental to say the least but they weren't crazy enough to do what they did. No one could be. Right..? “DON’T GO IN THERE!” I shout at them. My hands start to shake as I sprint toward them, but as soon as I started running I stopped. My legs gave out and by the time I could look up, all of Adreans friends were in the building. “Whats the problem?” Adrean said. “They… Can’t go in there… No. They c-can’t…” Adrean and Nick run over to me but I flinch at the first sign of contact. That's when they knew… Something was wrong. Really wrong. “THEY CAN’T! STOP THEM!” Chase bursts into tears as a scream echoes from the building… About a year ago they closed this facility due to the patient abuse rates. Though without the asylum the people who were admitted had nowhere to go. So they stayed. I mean it wasn't their fault. I mean they couldn't admit themselves. Wait… They're in the asylum. Crazy and vengeful. They have hatred in their hearts. I mean I would too if I had been through the stuff they had… Which I did. Long story short those guys were not safe. If anything they were the opposite and the fact the building was practically falling apart was no help either. “...” The aghast group stared into nothingness as the screams bounced off the walls in a shrill echo. Then Nick said, “I-I don’t even know what to say…” Suddenly Adrean bursts into a sprint, sweat dripping from his forehead. “NO” Without thinking for even a second i reach across and… SMACK! Holy crap… I just slapped him. Oh no. As stunned silence filled the air and Adrean felt his burning hot cheek Chase just stood there… Genuinely surprised that he had ever hit Adrean. Considering that they had been friends for years and he had never once even jokingly hit him, this was a shock to say the least.
