This refers to the August 1994 - September 1994 order by Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe (ATSF) as Nos. 650 - 699, phase 1c. General Description: The GE C44-9W, sometimes referred to as "Dash 9-44CW", "D9-44CW" or "9-44CW", is a 4,400 horsepower (3,280 kW) diesel-electric locomotive that was built by GE Transportation Systems between 1993 and 2004. It is similar to the AC4400CW, but uses DC traction motors instead of AC. The Dash 9 was designed to succeed the Dash 8 series, replacing the older Floating Bolster 3 trucks with the newer GE "Hi-Ad" trucks. The Dash 9 is the DC equivalent to the AC44CW.
