While it won't affect cats very much in other ways, it'll be harder to clean and take care of their fur. Folded Ears: (Sunflowerkit) Folded ears are caused by a mutation in the TRPV4 gene. All cats that will have folded ears later on are born with straight ears, and get folded ears around 3 to 4 weeks. Cats can either carry one or two copies of the gene. Having homozygous fold means that they get severe disorders at an early age, such as abnormal nail growth, joint swelling, general arthritis, and stunted tail developement and flexibility. Sunflowerkit has two copies of the gene and has a homozygous fold.
