**READ ME!!** (please.. lol) Hii!! Here is a guide/tutorial on how I use scratch bitmap to draw, and use the tools given in the program to the best of my advantage, because it seems a lot of people tend to struggle with drawing in it, or just have other programs they prefer. Here, I will give all my tips and tricks I’ve learned from drawing in bitmap for a LONG time, as well as reasons as to why you should try it, too! Feel free to ask questions if you need help or are unsure the meaning of something I said, haha, I’m not the best at explaining things- so lmk if I need to go more in depth on any given detail! Space/click to advance 1. Intro + Notes - Brush size reccomendations, sprites as layers, copy and pasting lineart 2. More Notes - Ghost effect as overlay, combining color and lineart layers, why I don’t use Vector, converting and loss of quality 3. Good luck wishes + P.S. 4. Bonus - Pros of using bitmap 5. Bonus pt. 2 - Cons of using bitmap + a tip about brush sizes 6. Overall consensus and final reccomendation Thank you for reading! Again, let me know if this helped, or if you have any questions, comments, concerns, etc.! I’m happy to clarify for anyone who’s curious or confused. Q&A/FAQ: Q1: What brush size did you use for this project? A1: 6 px, though I did use 4 px and 3 px to showcase those sizes! Q2: What do you mean by “layers”? A2: I mean sprites, and use them as layers to draw. What I do is put my lineart on one layer, then duplicate the sprite OR make a new one and copy/paste the lineart down. Then, I will make sure the original lineart layer is at the front, and the new one I just created is at the back (you can use coding blocks to ensure this). Then, I color on the new sprite, AKA “layer”, the one that is in the back. This way, I can color over my lineart without worrying about going over the lines or simplying using the fill tool alone - the lineart will appear on top, thanks to your initial sprite being separate and on top. Q3: Do I have to use this method? A3: Of course not! I only reccommended it because I know a lot of people prefer coloring on separate layers than their lineart, and usually, as do I. Q4: Can we merge the lineart and color into one sprite? A4: Yes, you absolutely can! Just copy your lineart again and paste it right over the colored layer. If you need to do this a few times while coloring, that’s okay too! I often copy and paste my lineart again few times while coloring in order to see my lines better on the canvas I’m actively drawing on at the moment. When you’re done with this process, feel free to delete your lineart sprite altogether, after you’ve pasted it onto your colors, of course! This is just a way to consolidate if you want to. Q5: What brush size did you use for your other art featured on your profile? A5: I used 6 px. for the following pieces - Danganronpa sketches, Kokichi as an Uma, Salvis Genderbend, Animal Jam Fanart, and my meme post abt Agnes Tachyon. I used 3 px. for my Monika, Natsuki, and Despair Sisters art!
Music is from the Omori OST! All info and writing made by me :p Links to examples of art I’ve done in bitmap (and any additional info about them, such as layers vs no layers, what brush size, overlays and effects, etc.): 1. Despair Sisters: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1388861891/ For this piece, I used a 3 px. brush, layers, a red overlay for the background, a separate layer for the moth and butterfly aspects, and a whirl + color effect on a scratch-supplied background. 2. Natsuki: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1389148382/ For this piece, I used a 3 px. brush and layers. 3. Just Monika: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1389181961/ For this piece, I used a 3 px. brush, layers, 2 green overlays, and put both a pixelate and brightness effect on the scratch-provided background. I also put pixel effects on the art itself and added small text in the corner using the pixel font in the scratch text editor. 4. DR2 Sketches: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1389294756/ For this piece, I used a 6 px. brush, and no layers. 5. Salvis Genderbend: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1389543467/ For this piece, I used a 6 px. brush and no layers. 6. Animal Jam Fanart: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1389726023/ For this piece, I used a 6 px. brush and no layers. An additional image was added upon completion of the sketches. 7. Agnes Tachyon Meme Post: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1389732202/ For this piece, I used a 6 px. brush and no layers. 4 additional images were added upon completion of the sketches. 8. Kokichi as an Uma: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1389749218 For this piece, I used a 6 px. brush and no layers.
