Instead of Saying: "Your gods aren't real" Say: "I don't personally believe, but I'm glad you've found something you connect to." --- Instead of Saying: "But that's weird.' Say: "That's nice." --- Instead of Saying: "So, like, do you kill animals for ritual sacrifice or something?" Say: "I'm interested in your traditions, what exactly do you do?" --- Instead of Saying: "Because you won't follow my religion, I don't like you anymore." Say Either: 1. "Due the constraints of my religion, I don't feel comfortable engaging directly in your religion. However, that doesn't mean we can't be friends!" 2. "I support you, and this doesn't change our friendship." --- Instead of Saying: "You're going to hell btw." Say: "I want what's best for you, and if this is really what you want I won't bother you on the basis of my own beliefs." --- Instead of Saying: "I pray you'll convert" Say: "I pray for you to be judged on the content of your character, and not who you chose to pray to." --- Your Words can make the difference between a strained relationship and a blossoming friendship. It can sometimes take a lot of worry and anxiety before finally being honest about your religion, so shooting them down in favor of your personal beliefs will only make things worse. Most of these things are words that every pagan has heard before. Choose your Words, and choose to be a friend.
