The NFL world was shocked today when legendary tight end and coach of arguably one of the greatest teams in NFL history, Mike Ditka, has passed away today at the age of 86. Ditka played for 12 seasons, playing for the Bears, Eagles, and Cowboys. After his retirement from playing following a Super Bowl win with Dallas in 1972, Ditka coached the Bears for 11 seasons starting in 1982. In 1985, Ditka coached arguably the greatest team in NFL history, as the Bears went 15-1, only losing to the Dan Marino Dolphins. The Bears beat the Patriots in Super Bowl XX by the score of 46-10. Ditka finished coaching for the Bears in 1992. Ditka also coached the Saints for three seasons, and gave the Washington Commies their entire DRAFT in 1999 to move up and select Ricky Williams. Following the 1999 season, Ditka retired, and spent the next 25+ years in retirement. Ditka passed away on October 9th, 2026, at the age of 86. His COD was undisclosed.
