(Chapter 2: Ew, confusion - Raine’s POV) I finally dragged myself back to our house. I checked the time on my watch. Dang. It was 9pm. Ami definitely must know what’s up by now. She isn’t stupid. She’s smart. That’s why I liked her in the first place. Guess my type changed, because she sure didn’t. Even if I can never love her the way I once did, I admire her. I really do. It would be so much easier to want to hate her though. To put false blame on her to make myself feel better. But I can’t do that to Ami. After all, she was my first love. Just not my last. I rang the doorbell. I used to be able to simply enter by opening the door and heading to our room. As simple as that, until Ami started locking the door. At one point, I asked her about it, because she knows well that we don’t have an extra set of keys. She replied directly with, “I want to be there to open the door and welcome you home after work.” I decided not to argue with that or ask any further questions. Today, though, she didn’t answer the door. Nervously, I tried opening it and apparently, the door was unlocked. “Ami?” I called out, expecting an answer. Nothing. I guess she left again. She’s been doing that more often - but who am I to judge? It’s not like I can leave the house constantly and expect her to stay in and wait for me the whole day. I’m not cruel like that. It just hurts, despite knowing where I head off to when I’m not working. Ever since I started leaving more often after meeting Tia, our relationship started falling apart. I didn’t know what to do - I still don’t. I find myself hardly reacting as enthusiastically as I once did to seeing Ami or hearing her voice. I try to smile, especially when she puts effort into making me happy. I found out the hard way, though, that whom you love is hardly something in your control. I’m drawn to Tia in a way I can’t explain. This is something I’ve never felt before, even for Ami. Tia, and her beautiful auburn hair and golden skin, coupled with her deep hazel eyes. Who wouldn’t get lost in them? Apart from that, she’s brave, thoughtful, perceptive, and grounded in a way I needed. Stable in this rocky life. Everything I never knew I needed so much. Just what am I supposed to do with this? Lying on my side of our bed, I sighed and started reading the book Ami recommended to me months ago. With such a busy schedule - which is partially my fault - I had barely gotten around to actually checking the book out ‘til recently. Might as well start to get my mind off of things. It’s so much easier than confronting your problems, huh?
