When Rainsight approaches the group of cats, they seem fairly welcoming and can see the value of having a healer in their midst. However, as she gets to know them, she begins suggesting that they become a clan, and some cats are quite apprehensive, especially the cat who seems to be the leader, Rowan, and his mate, Fern. Eclipse is the first of the group to hear out the tired molly, and although she is intrigued by Rainsight’s ideas, she understands the pressure unique to Clan cats of being relied on and is unsure if she can bear that weight. When the novelty of a new cat wears down and the group disperses, Rainsight begins to feel tired again and claims an unoccupied crack under a boulder as her den and splays out on top of it, taking in the afternoon sun. When the sun finally sets, she heads inside to sleep but is surprised by a small clump of catmint at the entrance to her den. It doesn’t smell like any cat and she takes it as a sign that she is meant to be here. The very next day after Rainsight arrives, the molly is Starbent on gathering herbs for her campmates. Eclipse, still interested in Clan ways, offers to accompany her. However, while on patrol, Eclipse seems quiet to Rainsight, even though they only met the day before. Rainsight asks Eclipse if something is wrong, and the molly replies that she is concerned about what kind of legacy she is creating and if Starclan is proud of her. Rainsight is delighted that her campmate is thinking about Starclan and she quickly reassures Eclipse that she is leaving behind a legacy that any cat would be proud of and the two manage to gather herbs while they discuss. Rowan and Patch have a very successful hunting patrol using group hunting techniques that Rainsight described. All of the cats have taken to hunting in groups, Rowan and Fern in particular. However, Fern has been struggling with her stalking technique, and has been scaring prey into the paws of her campmates rather than catching her own. Patch gently gives her a few tips and the two become closer friends. Rowan and Eclipse, the two cats who seem to naturally take charge and demand respect from their campmates, have a quiet conversation about Rainsight’s Clan ways. Rowan disagrees with Rainsight and believes that the Clan ways will make them weaker, and storms off from the discussion.
