It's Island Television time at FTDR with the Wuhu Archipelago's Fox affiliate, WSLN. Affiliation History: Independent (1982-1988) Fox (1988-present) Ownership History: Ocean Cities Broadcasting (1982-1987) Act III Broadcasting (1987-1995) Sullivan Broadcasting (1995-1998) Sinclair Broadcast Group (1998-present) History: On October 18, 1982, WSLN would launch as an independent station. It was then-owned by Ocean Cities Broadcasting, a company that primarily owned television stations in islands or coastal cities. While trailing behind market-dominant independent station WUWI, it proved to be a strong competitor to that station. From its launch until 1990, it was branded as "Island 27". Act III Broadcasting would purchase WSLN in 1987, before the station became a Fox affiliate after previous affiliate, the aforementioned WUWI dropped it. In 1990, the station branded itself as "Fox 27" as part of Fox's effort to emphasize its branding in its affiliates. Act III Broadcasting was acquired by ABRY Partners and renamed Sullivan Broadcasting in 1995. That same year, it reintroduced its "Island 27" name as it became heavily associated with the station. Three years later in 1998, Sinclair Broadcast Group would acquire Sullivan Broadcasting, becoming the current owner of the station. The "Island 27" would officially retire in 2003, as WSLN began adopting the "Fox 27" branding full-time.
