Tumble ( Thomas ) was built in 1912 alongside his sibling Merkland. The two were bought by the llanelly & mynydd mawr railway, in Wales. WAIT WALES?-. Anyway, in 1915 Tumble was loaned to the NWR to build a bridge from Barrow, to the Isle of Sodor, where the Railway was to be constructed and met with the other railways. In 1918, the Railway was finished, and by that time the railway bought Edward. Tumble was given back to llanelly & mynydd mawr railway. Tumble worked on the railway for 5 more years, that was until the railway was absorbed by the G.W.R. Tumble and Merkland sat in the shed often, the drivers never cleaned them, or took notice at all. Then, a letter came. The shed master gave it to Tumble. There it read; "To - N.978. My Railway has grown, and we are in desperate need of another engine. Ever since you left we were always thinking about your hard work. I have realised that I should've bought you many years ago, and as of since I have heard that you are not being used as often anymore Would you like to come and work on my railway? Sincerely- Thopham hat." Tumble was overjoyed, he was renamed Thomas, after his old Driver - Thompson, and Fireman - Jonas. When Thomas crashed into the stationmaster's house he was given a dipped running board, and is how he remains today.
