All of the story is true, except names (changed for privacy). ————— “Campers! Time to go!” The counselor yelled. I sniffed sadly. I didn’t want to leave. This place would always be special to me, forever. “Hey, Willow!” Ash yelled, jogging up behind me. “Can me and Quinn sit next to you in the van?” I internally gasped. Ash had let me join his Pack, but this was the ultimate acceptance. I quietly laughed at myself for being such a desperate leopard. “Sure!” I said. We all climbed into the giant van and buckled. Ash smiled, leaned over Quinn, and revealed a cute drawing of a leopard. “Oh my paws!” I stared at it. “You draw so well!!” “Thanks!” Quinn handed it to me. “It’s for you.” “Thank you so much!!!” I squealed. “When I get home I’m going to put this on my bulletin board!!!” Ash and Quinn high-fived. Quinn looked into the seats behind us and started chatting to Sunny and Alex. Ash thought for a second, then started barking out a tune. “We all live in a sketchy white van, a sketchy white van, a sketchy white van!” I smiled, remembering the song “Yellow Submarine” that my parents listened to constantly — my dad was a giant fan of the Beatles — and soon all the kids in the van were singing— even the ones who weren’t in the Pack. I leaned back in my seat and sang along. This was one of the things I would always remember about the best summer ever. Ash, Quinn, and the Pack had helped me awaken. I couldn’t wait to tell my parents about everything— after coming out to them. I looked out the window. Everything was beautiful. I wished to be running free as a leopard— but the Pack doing vocals and quads and even singing together gave me species euphoria. Trees closed the road in, and it was almost like we were in a jungle tunnel. Mountains peeked over the tops of the leaves, rain clouds covering their snow-tipped tops. It was sunny where we were, though. It might have been the most perfect day I had ever had. ——— Heart and star if you liked please!!!
